Without Vantage Payroll - What functionality am I missing?

We don't use Vantage Payroll either.

Lack of payroll means having to track any non-labor pay hours outside the system.
Vacation, sick, etc is all done in the ADP software we use.
Our finance dept. does not consider this to be that big of a deal, they've used ADP for so long they didn't want to learn a new system. We worked with our ADP rep to set up a data file that we dump each week and is then uploaded.

If you don't license Payroll, you can't set a shop employee's supervisor in Shop Emp. Maint. I cannot understand why a shop employee's supervisor would be a Payroll-related function, but it is.
But if you are even slightly adept at form modifications, you can easily add a ultracombo that lets you pick an employee that is that employee's direct report, and store it in a Char field. (When I say it's easy, I am serious - I could explain it in a paragraph at most)

One other thing, say you don't have Payroll and you intend to store the actual hourly pay rate in the labor rate field of Shop Employee form, this is easily seen in many places. care has to be taken to make sure employees don't see each other's rates.
If you are using Payroll, there are additional tables that are secure and pay rates are stored there. That field is meant to be the costing rate of the employee, but I have seen companies without payroll module, using it to store the actual hourly rate the guy is paid.

is unavailable in the Shop tracker and is only available with Vantage
Payroll.

functions/features are disabled without the Vantage payroll module.
Anyone that has any knowledge of what doesn't work without payroll
installed would be helpful, I need to justify the expense of the
payroll module.
