Would you upgrade from v5.2 to v6.1?

I think it depends on your comfort level. If you have the in-house
expertise then I would do it. You should install on a test server first
anyways, do this and see how it goes. You could install on any old pc
you have laying around (Windows 2000, XP etc.).

If you plan on going to 8.x or 9.x you still have to go to 6.1 first,
unless you start over from scratch or do an export/import. The sooner
you go to 6.1 the more help you will be able to get if needed.

Hi - I've never used 5.2, so am not sure on the differences to 6.1,
but have used variants of 6 and 8.

One of the things we liked with 6.1 was the Report Builder, which was
great - and easier to use than Crystal.

Decide how much you want to spend on the company tools. Some are
suggesting going to 8 - but if you do that, understand that you'll
need to seriously outlay some coin on new equipment - and user
experience will be slower. And while you'll probably not have the
nightmares we have ourselves (we're so disappointed we'd change back
to 6.1 from 8 in an instant if we could...) there will be teething
issues. Also the retraining and down-time costs may be significant.

If you're not desperate to change, wait and see how well Epicor 9
works.

Personally, if I made decisions on this kind of thing, I'd only fix
something if it was broken. So decide whether it's broken.

I hope you can glean something from this.

Since I value the opinions of the members of this list, I pose this
question.

Would you upgrade from v5.2 to v6.1 while not being on maintenance?

Additional information:
V6.1 installed and DB converted a number of times.
Most recent patch installed and updated.
All the clients are installed and functional.
90% of the reports are updated.
The main allure is the additional native crystal reports and BAQ/BAM
capabilities.
----Mostly the cut over just has to happen.

Main issue: I don't have any of the neat POClose.r utilities for v6.1 which
I have had to use for v5.2. Nor do I have the Dump and Load instructions
either.

I look forward to everyone's opinion. Thank you.

David

We are currently using version 5.2. I've worked with 6.1 at my previous
company and there really is not much of a difference in functionality or
speeds. We are upgrading to 8.03 in February. I would suggest that you
wait and upgrade to Vantage 8.03. I think 6.1 would be a waste of time
and could cause more headaches for you than you would like, especially
without maintenance.

I'm not sure why you would want to upgrade from 5.2 to 6.1???

It's like upgrading from an AMC Pacer to a Mercury Zephyr. They're both
old and in bad shape.

I suggest Travis' suggestion.... If you are going to upgrade, do it the
right way. Jump to 8.03 or wait until late next year for 9.
