Then there is no reason. He can open it up and make the changes, close it
and done. Vantage makes it sooo easy. :~)

Our controller wants to leave our year end open and not closed the last month for a little while... we can't enter and post new journal entries until it has been closed ...? Right?

you can enter a journal entry to a future period even if the current
period is not closed. You will get a message saying that it isn't
the correct month and if you want to continue. Just click ok to
continue and be sure you are in the month you want to be. You might
need to set up the next period too or you might get an error
message. You can just go under fiscal period maint. and add the new
period.

When you create the group it says something about affecting prior year accounts - I didn't know if it affected the balances and the closing functions as well...

I guess I don't remember ever seeing that message but if you are
creating an entry to a future period I don't see how it could affect
the prior years numbers, open or closed. I know that I have created
entries to future periods with no problem.

There is really no reason to leave the period open. Once it is closed if
you need to make a journal entry, you can re-open it and post the entry.

It's also a good reason to close periods quickly, with only certain
authorized users being able to open past periods.

Yes I agree - I wish it could lock everything - we have some people in purchasing and receiving that will periodically go into a receiver and change it no matter what month it was originally entered -- even though I have yelled at them thousand times for it.... At least capture does lock labor information.

Yes I agree - I wish it could lock everything - we have some people in
purchasing and receiving that will periodically go into a receiver and
change it no matter what month it was originally entered -- even though I
have yelled at them thousand times for it.... At least capture does lock
labor information.

That's why the death penalty should be universal.

It's also a good reason to close periods quickly, with only certain
authorized users being able to open past periods.

Sounds like way old school. With today's software it is just not necessary.
However that does of course suggest the need for some data processing

There is really no reason to leave the period open. Once it is closed if
you need to make a journal entry, you can re-open it and post the entry.
