4.0 delete company

Joe:
What you said happened is my concern. This is definitely something to do
in a test environment, after a backup and while others sleep. I envision it
taking a loooooong time. Thanks for the comments.

We tried it while we were on v3. Our consultant (who was extremely
knowledgable about vantage) actually did it. After a couple of
minutes the database crashed. We had to restore from the previous
night losing about a half a days work. So if you try it make
sure and do it when nobody is there and do a backup right
before it.

Anyone ever delete a company from the company configuration? Any problems
with it before/during/after?

Terry,
We delete companies all the time and haven't seen any bugs associated with
that, unless you delete the wrong one. My advice would be to run a backup
before just in case you run into something or the delete process encounters
some sort of error.

Terry,

If I were you, I would try this in the test system first. I actually did
delete a company in our test environment prior to going live (summer '99).
The only problem/issue(?) I had later on was that when I ran reports, the
company data was still there. Such as master files, they were not deleted.
So, if I didn't filter out the company than I would get extra data. There
weren't any transactions against the company, however, and like I said, this
was only in our test environment so we only used it for about 2 months
before going live so I can't speak on long-term affects.
