Subject: [Vantage] 5.1 Upgrade

We have been on 5.1 since 10/8/01. I have been keeping an Excel
Spreadsheet of existing issues and the status of those issues. I
think there are around 38 issues. Some are with SQL Server but about
half are with Vantage 5.1 code, which will affect everyone. Some
have been fixed with patches but the others are still open. I would
think Epicor would keep a list of known issues so that we could be
prepared for them and not call them in. Anyone going to 5.1 and
want a copy e-mail me offline and I will be happy to forward.
Thanks

One word of advise is to make sure all your packing slips are
marked "Ready to Invoice" before you do your conversions to 5.1.
It's now on the support web site but it's still not in the upgrade
instructions. Prior to 5.1, costs where captured when a packing
slip was created. With 5.1 costs are not captured until
the "Shipped" box is checked. The Shipped box replaces the "Ready to
Invoice" checkbox. If you dont have them all checked as "Ready to
Invoice" before the conversion then the costs are captured twice.
This really caused a headache for our accounting staff.

Hello All.

We are upgrading to 5.1 from 4.0 11/09/01.
Our PDC is a 300mhz single cpu with 512k ram.
In 4.0 the system runs fine (a little delay once in a blue moon )
We have 25 user of vantage. My question is does anyone know if 5.1 is
more server side extensive, the same or less compared to 4.0. Also
the same question would go for workstations?

Any reply is always appreciated.
I believe 5.0 is much more server intensive, but the only way to know is to set up a test database on your current server and give it a try (before going live). 300mhz is skimpy at best, and I assume you mean 512MB of RAM, which is sufficient.

Also, you may want to check with Epicor about their plans to 'patch up' 5.1 by your scheduled conversion date. At this time, 5.1 is a couple patches behind 5.0 in current bug fixes.

I would recommend going to 5.0 first (which you have to anyway to get to 5.1) and run on that for awhile. Then if things seem stable (and fast enough), move up to 5.1. The jump from 5.0 to 5.1 is not nearly as great as going from 4.0 to 5.0.
