Yes, I would like to use groups in this area - Makes too much sense.
Epicor doesn't seem to understand the concept of Administration by Group
in general. Try doing any kind of Members Of report and you will
understand. Don't get me started.. Hoping V8 being based on Windows will
be more friendly. However, you start by individually adding a user to
the workforce. Then to add an authorized user to the first user you get
a pulldown menu listing users only no groups. Thus you begin at the
bottom of your pyramid and start working your way up to Regions and
Territories setting permissions along the way.

One problem we encounter in getting the Sales manager to get a proper
view of the pipeline was impossible because of the way we do business.
Sales starts the process of getting a quote and an order. It is then
tasked over to Customer Service. Often Customer Service is the one doing
the follow up on the order. Therefore it never went back to a
Salesperson for a win. The pipeline only showed the sales person, Also a
person cannot be a member of more than one task group.

You really need to have your consultant design your CRM and test it on a
test server to see if it serves the purpose you are looking for. Don't
let them leave before you copy it to your production database and see it
function.

We're not that far down the road just yet. However, I was thinking about
using security groups for this. Am I wrong in assuming that I can give
permission to the "buyers" group and then make each buyer's username
authorized for that group? It's so much easier to manage groups rather
than
individual users. Yikes!

Is there a place where the model is described?

Could you elaborate? Do you really mean the installation or do you mean the
implementation? There does seem to be a lot to tasks, task groups,
workforce, etc. and it would be nice to read an overview on how the system
is designed to work. We plan to replace GoldMine with the CRM soon.

I also would ask for a web demo to have them show it will work, for
innovative vantage prior to v8 is useless.

It was a permissions nightmare for us. You know how you have to set up
your buyers in purchasing and give each other permissions otherwise you
can't open another buyers PO. Well that's just the beginning. I have
three dedicated quoters and thirteen engineers who sometimes quote. All
need cross permissions. Getting the drift. Unless your company is setup
just like their model we found their reporting to be of no use to us. I
hear that they have fixed the Sales manager screen so it doesn't take
FIVE minutes to load.

As I said, flip the switch without a consultant and you just may get
electrocuted. I did that and had to scramble just to get my quoters
back on line as they no lnoger had the permission to touch any quotes.

Ah... I am not on 6.1. However, I must interject. Vantage CRM is a
"Customer" based module, not a "Contact" based module. I believe there
needs to be a clear distinction made. Third-party contacts that interact
(need to be linked) with multiple customers require multiple entries.
Changes and customization available in v8 shows great promise in this area.
Make no mistake, it is definitely a Customer Relationship Manager. And this
may not be an issue if it fits your business model.

Many Vantage users would be overjoyed if you found the methodology using the
CRM to replace Goldmine.

At Electroimpact, we've asked for a Buyer Authorization by group: Page ID
7753MPS
SUGGESTION: Would like to use Security Groups for maintaining authorized
users. Or, there should be a Company Configuration option whether Authorized
Users are necessary or not.
