For mrp to look at your stock, the parts (subassemblies) need to be stock items (not marked as non-stock in part master / plant) and the process MRP should be checked on the part plant. We are on version 8.03, so I'm not sure if this is the same for 6.1.

Subject: [Vantage] 6.1 MRP
Â
In Vantage 6.1 when we run MRP we cannot get it to go out and check our inventory for the subassemblies before it creates the job. So, if we have 105 parts that need to be made and we have 55 already in stock it still creates the job for 105 parts. The key to making this work from what I understand is when a part is in the engineering workbench and you are editing the material there is a check box that says pull as assembly, which once this is saved checked back in then the material that is a assembly shows up under subassemblies in the job or job tracker. Ideally, when MRP is ran the amount of subassembly parts should be adjusted, because it should be checking inventory . Any assembly with no subassemblies does consider what is inventory.
Right now MRP only helps us schedule jobs for a particular machine(work centers). So behind the scenes of Vantage we are going through way to much planning, which Vantage should be taking care of. MRP with the assemblies setup correctly should figure out for assembly name (AB) we need to make a particular subassembly (B) before subassembly (A) because subassembly (B) is needed to make subassembly (A) results to make assembly (AB). Yet, if we already have a few in inventory not as many subassemblies needs to be made, but our MRP is not figuring this out. Hopefully that makes sense.
Ideas? I am hoping we can fix this otherwise we will have to move on to bigger and slower (from what i have heard) versions for Vantage or Epicor 9.
