Thanks but I got it worked out. I had forgotten the Services entry for port 6120 and made a hash of the test.mfg file trying to get it to work. Then remembered the Services but with the by then broken .mfg file it did not appear to help. When I totally re-did the .mfg file (with help from Norm Watkins) it started working. It really would have been nice if Knowledgebase article 3744MPS had said somewhere to go make the Services file entry for port 6120. It's documentation omissions and bugs like this that make me really leery of the 8.x migration process.

Todd,
This is just a wild shot, but when I was practicing upgrading to version 8 I had trouble getting the database started or logged in. When I finally gave up and redid the database things worked much better. Could the your database be damaged? If you have tried everything else you might try recreating the database.

Subject: [Vantage] [6.1] Test Database - No Login Screen
I had posted some questions on this last week but am still having no luck getting a login screen for the new test DB I set up. Instead I am seeing some really weird things that don't make any sense at all. Here are some new clues incase it sparks some ideas from the group. Again, this is all relative to 6.10.
Since the other post I realized I had not set a Services file entry for port 6120 but that did not help.
I also tried (based on a KB item) doing the cmannd string method in the shortcut. Basically....
M:\prgs91d\bin\prowin32.exe -T C:\epicor\mfgwk61 -pf m:\mfgtest\db\mfgtest.pf -N TCP -H vantage -S 6120 -p mainmenu.w -ininame m:\mfgtest\mfgtest.ini ...as you may see I also have created specific versions of mfgtest.pf and mfgtest.ini. I also restored the database as MFGTEST into its own folder and it is running as well as viewable with Promon.
When I run the command line version I get a Progress error box that says it can not connect to MFGSYS. I can't find where this reference may be coming from.
When I run the regular test.mfg file I get a black & white splash screen (mfgsplash-gs.gif) like it is not trying to use the regular one vnsplash.gif. I even edited mfgsplash-gs.gif and the edited version is displayed. As long as the splash screen is displayed CPU usage goes to 50%. If I wait for it to go away OR click on it then CPU drops to zero. No regocx.log file is ever created in the mfgwk61 folder. I can't find any references anywhere to mfgsplash-gs.gif so I can't figure out why that file is being used.
Any ideas at all would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
