Actual Time to Upgrade to 8.0

Hi Dina,

Me and another guy, both of us having done 3 to 5 and 5 to 6 together previously, plus, he had done 6 to 8 in another plant of ours - we had a long weekend. Starting Friday night and finishing up Sunday around noon. I'd say easily 20 hours, like was said before. It was not stressful, we had no monumental problems, per se.
The database was just over 2 GB at the time of conversion. Thanks to our having done this a few times, we had no hiccups, but it takes a long time, it seemed like so much longer than the 5 to 6.

Hello! I hope everyone had a nice July 4th Holiday.

We will be upgrading to 8.0 in the next few months. We will be going from
5.2 to 8.0. Can someone tell me estimated how long it actually take for the
upgrade. Our database is under 2GB. I am not looking on how long it will
actually take for us to learn but an idea how long our consultants will have
to be here to complete the upgrade (they are not vantage consultants)

I'm not sure if this is possible - but I am just looking how long it took
others.

Thank you,

I had a consultant from Vantage here to upgrade our system from 6.1 to
8.03.405b and he had problems with the conversion working correctly. He was
here 3 days and was still unable to get it to convert correctly. He took a
copy of my database which is approximately 2gb and when he did get it to
convert it took over 16 hours to convert.

Dina,
I did not have problems with our conversion, but I had done it several
times before the actual live upgrade. I had a very limited window of
opportunity, so I took the Db down at about 1am on Saturday morning and
had it mostly up and stable (moved to a new server that we had been
testing with also) Saturday afternoon. Our Db was aprox. 1 GB and I
would say 6.1 to 8.03.403D took around 14 - 16 hours. The real trick
was reloading customizations, reports, BAQs, BPM etc. that we had
determined were needed prior to the upgrade and had created in the test
environment beforehand. I also had all clients installed before the
upgrade date, so that eliminated a bunch of trouble. We started using
the new 8.x Db Sunday morning at 6:00am and I continued to fix issue
through Monday. Of my time for the upgrade, I put in a little over 40
hours between end of normal business Friday till Start of normal
business (office hours) Monday. I don't know if I would attempt this
upgrade with non Vantage consultants. Non Epicor I would fully support,
but I would want someone very familiar with Vantage to be running this
upgrade.
Having upgraded from 3.x through the versions to currently 8.03.405, the
6.1 to 8.x upgrade is by far the hardest and most unfriendly upgrade.
As an additional point of interest, make sure you run through the
upgrade in a test environment and check out the changes, especially
those to the WorkCenter vs Resource (Group) and schedule some jobs to
see the impact. This will also allow you to judge the time required.
Best of luck,
Aaron Hoyt

PS. if I was doing it again I would have done it over the 4th when
support was there and our employees were not.
