Adding a Crystal report to Vantage 8.0.403C

Follow up: PROBLEM RESOLVED

After applying all the 3.0 .Net patches to no avail, shortening the
path to the file, searching Crystal's & Microsoft's knowledge bases I
discovered that by removing the spaces from the file name it worked as
expected................... It's been a learning experience

Thanks to all who help!

Steve,

I am testing report distribution methods using both the BAQ and ODBC
method. It is the BAQ method that I was seeing in system monitor . The
BAQ method report displays but some formulas need to be refined based on
filed conversions. It appears that the BAQ takes a date field i.e.
PayrollDate and converts it to date/time field type. The same report
using ODBC retains it as a date field type. My problem is trying to run
the ODBC report from a menu, nothing seems to happen. Do I need to
configure ODBC user access at the client level, or is this at the server
level? (see below a little fuzzy about what Epicor is talking about)

How to get a Custom Crystal Report onto the Vantage 8.03 Menu

Set-Up User Access for ODBC:

Ensure you have created the user 'sysprogress' with password
'sysprogress' using the Data Admin utility. You can access the Open Edge
Data Administration tool by taking your existing "Admin Tools" shortcut,
right click on it and enter properties:

On the end of the target line - replace "DataAdminMenu.w" with "_admin.r
-rx" so it reads (at the end) "-p _admin.r -rx".

Your AppServers for that DB should be stopped, but the DB itself should
be running. Rename the shortcut appropriately.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

If you select the report in the system monitor and then select preview
from
above do you get any errors or does the report show up?

I tried that it. When I tried to run the report from a menu, the custom

happens. Looking at the system monitor the report shows up under the
reports tab with the last action as being auto-preview. As this is my

Hello,

I have added a test ODBC report though menu maintenance (verifying ODBC
setup). I am trying to add a report that uses parameter fields for
record selection. It flashes retrieving data but never returns anything
else. I would have expected to be prompted for the parameter values? Any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan,

Have you ever used the BAQ Report Designer? Much cleaner solution to
custom reports than ODBC. Building the query can sometimes be a little
tricky as the tool used to do so is a little weak, but the integration
of the report into the Vantage interface is seamless and works
identically to all 'canned' reports. Indistinguishable to the end user.

Hello Todd,

I started down that path to begin with (my first attempt with BAQ). When
I created the following criteria in the BAQ

for each EmpBasic where ( EmpBasic.EmpStatus = 'A') no-lock , each
LaborHed where (AND LaborHed.PayrollDate >= 02/19/2007) and
(EmpBasic.EmpID = LaborHed.EmployeeNum) no-lock .

And then analyze the statement it returns the following error:

** Unable to understand after -- "no-lock where". (247)

I removed the payroll date criteria and it tested fine.

I have the following questions:

I added the payroll date filter as an option in the BAQ report designer.
It appears that this eliminates the need for doing the same record
filtering in Crystal using parameter fields?

Can I create criteria for multiple tables in the BAQ and how does one
edit the syntax errors that creates?

When I tested the BAQ it returns a lot of data, generating data in the
report designer appears to create a very small sample set of data and
only after deploying the BAQ do I see the expected results ( spent a
long time trying to understand why my Crystal report was not returning
more data before I figured that one out) is there a way to expand the
amount of data it generates?

Thanks for the help and advice!

Thanks,

Dan
