Advance Shipping Notices

I was wondering if any companies require their vendors to send ASN's (Advance Shipping Notices) to them.

We want to require our vendors to start sending them to us but we are unsure how we want it.

How do other companies do it? Does Vantage provide anything.

When we send out ASN's to our customers, we have to log into their system to send it.

Any suggestions on how we should approach this?

What type of notice? A pop up or an email? Is it internal or to your

What we are looking to do is have the system send an e-mail when the
package is shipped. We have configured the server so that it will send
alerts from Vantage externally. In the Manifest Info there are
settings to send an e-mail when the package ships. However we have not
had a sucessful test yet.

We have a customer that is somewhat manual in the way they work but they request ASN's as well. We then fax the shipping crystal report to the customer's shipping dept/company. Then when it's out of the building, ie: picked up, we have someone mark it shipped (We have the person checking the packing slips do that)
I put into the Crystal Report at the top to say "Confirmed:" "04/22/2008" if the shipped box is marked. . The date can come from Last Change field in the shipping table. This copy we fax to their accounting dept.

Another way to do it without doing any advanced crystal is to create 2 report styles. One for ASN and one for Packing Slips.
I myself however do not have to deal with EDI, but it seems like the same could be accomplished with either option. It will however take a little more effort with option 1 for EDI.

We do this through WorldShip, but then again, that's only if we are shipping
UPS.

You'll want to have a clean point to send notification(s). Maybe your shipping
department is better than ours, but often they'll ship the wrong line or the
wrong amount, unship, then ship again correctly. We didn't want each of those
actions to generate a notice to the customer. WorldShip sends notices during
"End of Day" processing.

The other nice thing that WorldShip does, and you should be able to do in
Vantage as well, is to send a link to a web site for tracking purposes.

As far as your server goes, does it allow mail to be relayed from the Vantage
server? You can use telnet to test it out from your Vantage server:

I did a customisation of Purchase Advisor to show ytd and prev year
usages in 8.00.811. (should work with newer versions too)

The problem is that purchase advisor will be by part. I want to be able
to pull up part usage data by supplier or product class, and not have to
look it up part by part.

The Vantage canned Inventory Usage report will do some of that--it is in
Material Management/Inventory Management/Reports (in 8.00.811). You can
filter by part number, part class or warehouse, and chose the end date
for the report (it will give the previous 12 month's usage up to that
date broken out month by month).

We use a tool called Knowledge Sync by Vineyard Soft. It is very easy
to use and you can design the emails in HTML.

I would highly recommend it. And it is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks, but like all of Vantages Progress Reports, it is useless. I
really need it in a Dashboard or better yet a BAQ. This way I can dump
it to Excel and actually work with the data.

Can anyone think why the Order Entry and Job Entry screens would be really slow for my remote users. The rest of the Vantage screens are fairly responsive. So that kind of makes me think it's not in the communications or PC's, but something specific to those screens.
I have just tried a dump and load of the database and this didn't help.

Any ideas?
