Advanced Quality (IQS) integration with Vantage

When a user does an update in Vantage (create a part, update a part, etc), Vantage exports a text file, which Service Connect picks up, alters, this then gets picked up by a bridge "toolkit" created by IQS which then transfers it to a SQL database for use of AQM. It isn't ODBC, it is a "text driver"

Export from Vantage of parts, suppliers, customers, contacts, employees etc, but the data exported is slim (don't understand why more isn't being exported). Export of revision changes, things of that nature, fairly slim.

AQM talks back to Vantage in terms of NCMs and inspections of shipments received, but that aspect seems to be fairly broken right now (never worked fully for us) we are waiting for a patch. Also the multi-company aspect of Vantage and AQM is fairly broken as well (waiting for this as well), this is why the other posted had to create seperate SQL databases for multiple companies.

I've done a few SQL scripts to automate certain things, potentially you could create interfaces for these scripts for users using Visual Basic.net and things like that since everything is ODBC/SQL. Haven't had any requests yet for that, but would be fairly easy to do.

Hi All,

Are there any users who are on Vantage 8.03.40x and are using IQS?

If yes, I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions?

1) How does IQS integrate with Vantage? ODBC? Service Connect?
Other?

2) Out of the box, which workflows are integrated? Meaning, at what
points do the two system integrate?

3) If you had custom requirements, beyond those in question two,
how to you achieve this? Custom Programming? In-house programming?

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

We are in the middle of testing - hoping to go "live" in September. Our
implementation has dragged on since the beginning of the year - mainly
because our Quality Manager has been distracted with another project
(ISO 9000) - the nerve!

Anyway, I can answer some basic questions. I can say that a good
resource is Paul Piazza with the Ellison Group; Paul - are you still a
member of this group??

1. Service Connect workflows connect Vantage <> IQS/AQM. We're
currently on 8.03.407C. We have two companies but are running one
instance of Vantage. When we go to Production, we will need two
separate IQS/AQM SQL databases and two separate instances of Service
Connect.

2. I can send you some documentation on the transaction integrations if
you like - just confirm your email address. I will say that some of the
setups are tricky and my list is getting longer as I uncover issues
through testing that will need to be addressed.

3. We do not currently have any customization requests - we're just
happy to have an application that will address some of our quality
issues! Give us a year though, and I'm sure that we'll come up with
something. There are some additional application feaures that we'd like
- that are part of the IQS package but not currently offered by Epicor.

Could you send me that list you talk about in number 2 We are in the middle
of trying to get it to work as well.

Thank you.

I'll be glad to add what little knowledge I have as well.

What are you all going to do about NCM since they can't be entered Via
vantage but must be entered in IQS?

Hi Charlie,

The document that I referred to is from the Epicor site (or maybe it
came with the installation?), "Advanced Quality Management Integration,
IQS Version 6.82, April 2008". If you can't find it, I'll send it, just
confirm your address (email me at laraine.song@skoflo.c0m
<mailto:laraine.song@skoflo.c0m> ). I wasn't sure if Joe's company had
committed to IQS/AQM yet, so I didn't know what documents he might have
in hand.

And yes, as per the document - as far as the "all Non Conformance
records should be created in the AQM application": fortunately, this
really isn't a problem for us, since we haven't been PROPERLY using the
NCM functionality in Vantage. This design will actually build more
structure and discipline into our process - which we sorely need. But
yes - I sympathize with anyone who has to go back and re-invent the
wheel on this.

Let me know -

Ohh I have that one. That document has holes in it sole large you could lose
a semi Truck in there.

We have been doing NCM from MES for atleast two years now so our QA guys are
not very pleased with idea of having a second program running beside MES
that people will have to learn to use.

We wondered if anyone had attempt to build the missing piece to intercept
the NCM info and sling it to IQS which would then send it back to vantage.
In theory I think it could be done but have not even begun to tackle it.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I agree with you on the document. I started out testing with it, but I
found myself going in circles. Fortunately, Epicor provided another
document (internal??) to us to use- which is what I'm currently using
for primary testing. I'll go back to the other one when I'm to "proof
of concept". Like I said, my application issues list is growing (csv
field sizes - data doesn't transmit?), business issues to be resolved
(no spaces allowed in Bin Locations), and just "pita"-type stuff
(redundant setup in all of the Reason Codes required for transmissions).

Like I said, I'm glad that we don't have to go back and re-engineer any
of our processes (like you apparently do). We're OK with the
limitations of the integration - for now.

Good luck!

Good luck!
