Alternate uses for Foreign Languages

Butch,

Thanks again. I ran through the instructions and it does exactly
what we need it to do.

We have a group of products that have a very extended description
(mini-specifications) that are shown on our quotes in our legacy
system. This is separate from the "normal" description for the part
and is only used on the quotes. One suggestion that the
implementation team came up with was to use the Foreign Description
field as a place to store this info and copy/paste it into the Quote
Comments as the quote is created.

We have no need for the Foreign Language translator and have created
a new "language" called Quote Description with a base language
of "English" to avoid any translations of labels
for "Part", "Customer ID", etc. The problem is that I only
see "English" in the Language field for the Foreign Description for
the Part. I don't want to change the default language for the
company, but it would be a helpful reminder if we could show "Quote
Description" in the Language Field.

Any suggestions?? Anyone tackle a similar problem in a different
way?

In our 6.1 implementation we have a similar issue with requiring
specific information on quotes for specific products. We created a
quote template with a different line item for each of the different
products and putting the additional information in the comment field.
When we create a new quote we duplicate the template which will bring
over the part numbers and comments. So far it is looking good.

Yes to the "master" quote template (1 quote with a line item for each
product - the specific comments for each quote is at the line item
level) and no to the deleting portion of the question. When you select
the duplicate option, you will get a dialog box which will allow you to
duplicate the whole quote or you can select specific line items you
want. That is the option we are choosing.

Butch,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a great plan. I am having some
trouble getting this to work. I would like to have a
generic "master" quote for any current or new customer, but I can't
select the Duplicate option until after I select the customer and
then only if there are existing quotes for that customer. Am I
overlooking something?

From my "only" CRM team member:

To make the template quote:

1. I made a customer called quote template with no contacts

2. I added a quote with the customer as the quote template customer.

3. Then I added all my lines I wanted templates for

4. If I wanted any special phrases or comments to show per line item, I
added comments to each line item (i.e. all accessories that come with
the unit or special terms)

To use the template quote:

1. Browse for existing quote template (make sure you have the correct
territory and filter to find the template) and select

2. From Quote menu select Duplicate

3. Check both boxes for Material / Operations Costs AND Operation
Standards

4. Select Lines (this is where you choose what specific product/part you
want to quote on or not)

5. Select OK

6. From Quote menu, select Update

7. Browse for customer you want quote to go to and select

8. Your quote should now be done for correct customer and product/parts.
