Backflushing of kits

Try Phantom BOMs, when a job is created the Phantom BOM number disappears and the materials and the operations are appended to the top assembly materials and operations list.

Subject: [Vantage] Backflushing of kits

We are looking for options…

We currently call out Fastener kits on our drawings but have individual fasteners in part maintenance and being stocked in our WH.  We are looking for an easy way to translate the hardware kits into individual parts on the job or to relieve inventory at the individual part level.

Experimented with Sales kits.  It appears that Sales kits could be brought into the BOM, but they drive jobs to stock for the kits.  Tried adding the kit as a subassembly on a job, but they would require manual issuance of the material or someone clocking to the sub to backflush the material.

Any ideas?

Andrew,

We struggled with something similar, large assembly with fasteners used at various levels in the BOM. We wanted to retain the information of where used in the MOM for purposes of work instructions on the shop floor, but in reality we purchased them as a kit from fastenal. What we came up with is to use service connect to comb through the jobs and auto-create purchase orders for these kits and they would be purchased directly to the job. I know this isnt exactly your scenario, but it seems to be a complex one, and there are seldom easy solutions to those! Unless you are calling out materials for the operations using them on the MOM, the system has no way to know how and when to backflush them. If you are open to manually issuing parts you could tag them at the part level if your operations are somewhat standardized and use a dashboard to pick up on completed operations etc… I don’t think there’s an easy button there, but there are solutions, mostly requiring a bit of coding to get what you’re after i think. Perhaps the simplest might be if you had some templates by fastener kit, you could use DMT to assist with that task.
