I am trying to barcode the JobMtl.AsmSeq field on our Traveler.

This field is a 4 character string. After using a formula to insert
asterisk around the field, the bar code looks like this

*___1* (3 spaces before the numeric character).

Crystal displays this field as two serpate bar coded fields (with a space
between) which my gun (PSC Powerscan LR) won't read. If I replace the
spaces with commas (*,,,1*), it works.

Ideally, I would like the field to look appear as *1* or *12* if a two
character field.

I'm sure that I need to convert this string to another type of field, but
that's the extent of my knowledge.

Can anyone help?

Kelly,

If you are trying to delete spaces in front of the sequence number you might
try something like this "*"+ trimleft(JobMtl.AsmSeq) + "*"
