Best way to backup all custom SSRS rdl report files?

We have ~100 custom SSRS RDL reports. I’d like to know the best way to back all of them up from production for archiving (and to also overwrite all old custom ones on Pilot).

Thanks.

Under Report Style you can download the .rdl using Actions -> Download SSRS Report but that would be a very manual time consuming process. Recently when we upgraded from 10.0 to 10.2, we had to download all of our custom SSRS reports from the browser and import them to the new SSRS database created when we deployed. If you find a way to do this as more of a bulk download, I’d definitely be interested for future reference.

You can use the Solution Workbench and add the Report Styles to the solution. When you build, it will ask if you want to include the RDL files as well. Once you set up the solution, you can rebuild to re-archive the RDLs.
If you’re also moving the RDL files to another environment, this method will automatically adjust the datasources to the new environment.

Is this a new feature in 10.1 or 10.2? I was not able to do that in 10.0…

Make sure you go to the GitHub page and install the Reporting Services PowerShell

I use ReportSync and regularly make a “backup” by downloading the CustomReports “folder”

  1. Enter path to SSRS
  2. Enter credentials
  3. Click “Load”. Open the Reports folder and check the CustomReports folder.
  4. Choose a destination
  5. Download

And all the “files” in the CustomReports and the sub “folders” are downloaded.
