I've used Cognos' Powerhouse products on an older ERP system and I'm just
starting some work on a Cognos 8 project, although not on Epicor/Vantage.
Cognos 8 is completely web-based and has some "Wow" factor. Since EVERYTHING
runs at the server, you do need some beef there. Also, it can connect to
datasources anywhere within network reach, so I can see some performance
issues if not set up properly.

I've always liked Cognos and now that they're owned by IBM, it's going to be
a stable product.

Does anyone or has anyone used Cognos with Vantage? Version 6.1 or 9?

Rick,

Never used Cognos with Vantage. I've used it in the past, however.
It's better than CorVu.

I'm in the minority, but I've just never been a big fan of data-cube
data-mining/reporting software. It works well for a company that
manufactures pencils or other basic things but not for most
environments. I wind up creating a report anyways for folks because
most users are either too lazy/afraid/ignorant to create reports
themselves (or even know where to look). Plus, yesterday's data just
isn't recent enough for most people.

I've never worked with cognos on the development side but I managed the
servers that cognos's DBs set on. We constantly had performance issues with
it. It took a pretty heavy duty box to make some of the reports run in a
decent amount of time. However some of these reports were sifting through
hundreds of gigs of data. I hope for your sake that your vantage DB isn't
hundreds of gigs.
