I've used 8.5 for several months now with little trouble. I thought a recent glitch in the POFORM for 5.1 was a Crystal 8.5 problem, but it ends up that it wasn't Crystal's fault. There is what I call a MINOR issue with customized Vantage forms not looking exactly right on the workstation with Crystal 8.5 installed, but the reports work fine on all other workstations. Works for me. I recently went BACK to 8.0 on my workstation just to try to debug the POFORM mentioned above, but it didn't help (even after deleting all the old Seagate directories).
So... don't quote me or sue me or hold me responsible, but I think you'll probably do OK with CR 8.5. If you're still nervous, pay the $30 to Crystal and get version 8.0 from their archives.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal Reports - 8.5 vs 8.0 vs 7.0
I know I am being highly redundant but I need to ask anyhow to see what is
the current understanding.
I need to know if anyone is using Crystal 8.5 successfully with Vantage (we
are on 3.0).
I am currently on 7.0 and have deployed probably 60+ reports for usage. I
know that with 8.0 and up you need to do web based reporting and I can
probably make that change but I don't want buy 8.5 if it won't work with
Vantage.
I have written a "Running 60 Day Order" report. It shows all open jobs by
customer with due dates and QTYs. I got creative and now I'm getting
killed. I added a feature that shows late jobs in red, jobs due in a week
in green and future jobs in black. Well now everyone is using it and I am
burning ink cartridges like there is no tomorrow. I understand 8.x has the
ability to use font and type (bold, italic) etc selection via formulas, 7.0
does not it only supports color changes via formula.
I hoping this will help get away from the color usage.
Thanks for the feedback
