That sounds like what I'm trying to do as well.
Remember, there is a database conversion step
between 3 and 4 that must be run before you can
login and run the v4 schema changes. Refer to the
v4 installation instructions, it should be run instead of
the step where you are restoring the 3.0 db into the
4.0 directory. Again, it is all in the v4 install instructions.
Good luck.

Hello all,

We are currently on 3.00.632. I am trying to install 5.0 on a standalone
workstation to start evaluating it. I cannot convert a 3.0 db directly to a
5.0 db, it must be converted to 4.0 first.

Fortunately, I have a 4.0 test db running alongside 3.0 on the server. What
is the best way to get recent 3.0 data to the 5.0 machine before
installation (without disrupting live 3.0)? Here's my plan so far, tell me
if I'm correct (or where I might run into a snag):

1. Run the BACKVAN.BAT utility while 3.0 is running, creating a backup.1
file.
2. Turn off Proservice for 4.0.
3. Delete current 4.0 database files.
3. Run the prorest.bat command, directing the restore into the 4.0 folder.
4. Start Proservice for 4.0.
5. Logon to 4.0 & run schema changes.
6. Turn off Proservice for 4.0.
7. Burn 4.0 database files to CD.
8. Copy 4.0 files to standalone 5.0 machine.
9. Start 5.0 & run schema changes.
10. Evaluate.

Thanks for any guidance,
