DocStar vs Docuware recomendation

We would like to implement AP automation. Now that DocStar ECM is part of Epicor is there any reason to look at other software like Docuware for this purpose? Our controller had initally been looking at Docuware. Any thoughts?

I’m biased, but the more I play with the integration and datalinks inside ECM, the more I think it’s capable of doing almost anything. I’ve not looked at Docuware at all, and I come from DocLink and Laserfiche in my past - but Docstar/ECM is a very good product. Stable, easy to use, easy to admin, all around good stuff. If you have ERP, Docstar is the no-worry option unless you have to have certain functions.

All ECM’s are relatively equal is base functionality and it’s bells and whistle that make the difference. We don’t need a lot of the features of other products so we’re happy with ECM. I like the IDC as well as it’s really good.

We were looking at Concur before Epicor bought DocStar and went with ECM. We have only been live for a few months, but I am able to make tweaks in the workflows as needed. Our primary AP person has been out for months and we are on our second temp using ECM. Both have been able to process over 100 invoices a day with almost zero Epicor training.

With @MikeGross’s help I have made a few other workflows that have been very useful in attaching documents to Epicor much quicker than without ECM.

Just curious. For those who are using DocStar is it the cloud or on-premise version you’re using? Any advice in that regard?

Our Epicor ERP is on-premise.

Have done both. They used to host it in AWS if you wanted. If on prem, make sure to segment it out to reduce the risk of malware. It is natively a web app so it works well in either deployment method.

On-prem for me. Docstar in the cloud would work just fine as far as I can tell. The interface with ERP is via the API so it doesn’t matter ‘where’ each end is. The system is already HTML based so there is no custom code or BPMs or BAQs that you would need to write that are sometimes difficult in cloud based ERP.

@Marvin_Horst Ours is on prem and I also got a dev key for a second set of IDC and ECM.
