E10.1 Salesperson mandatory on Quote

It is required because you have CRM enabled. Primary sales person is part of the core functionality of CRM. It is not required on orders because CRM does not touch orders. Regardless it doesn’t matter that it’s required or not. Your choices are, do nothing about it and have people just select it (a minor task in my opinion), or have a customization designed to make it work the way you want.

I’ve already provided code that can get the Sales person from the territory. Use the same methodology to get the sales person from the part record on update of sales order lines. If this is not something you can handle, then hire it out. It will streamline your process and take care of this roadblock. However be warned you could run into trouble if someone adds multiple parts with varying sales people because you will have to account for the many to many relationship of that vs one to one of quote and salesperson.

Our salesperson is found in a customization in the Part file, not in customer. We do have a territory set up for the customer with both salespersons listed but it is the Part file that determines which salesperson should be on the quote and order, not from the territory or the customer records.

I still don't see the reasoning behind making salesperson mandatory on the quote.

This is a major issue for us.  It is the reason we are not upgrading to E10.1 – it killed our Quote Configurator.

This is a major problem for us. Why is a salesperson mandatory on a Quote? It's not mandatory on a sales order...yet!!

We don't need it mandatory on either the quote or the sales order. The workaround is not very good at all!

There needs to be an option in Company Configuration to make salesperson mandatory or not.

I agree, the “workaround” listed did not work for us as we have the CRM.  The other workaround is to assign the salesperson at the customer level not the territory level. This did work in my test environment, but is ridiculous.  There is NO way we are going thru that huge hassle.  I was told it is not slated to be fixed until E10.1.500. Therefore, we are not doing the E10.1 upgrade.

Why not build a BPM that just enters a salesperson on every new quote until it’s fixed?

Might if you don’t have the CRM, but in manual testing I couldn’t add the salesperson.  I got the same error, which tells me there is a major issue, it is caught in an infinite loop of some sort.

Previously, I had tried to put a BPM on the quote salesperson, to change it to the user adding the quote, but had no luck.  So if someone does manage to get that working, I would LOVE to commandeer the BPM.

The problem is that we might have two salespersons who deal with that account. Our salespeople are determined by part number, not by customer. So it is just "messing us up"! Also, the salesperson isn't mandatory on the sales order...maybe I should just keep quiet on that one!!!

I see yeah that throws the error, but you still have a territory with a sales person assigned there is a lineage to follow. Just use a BPM or screen customization to create the quotes salesperson record based on the primary sales person of the territory.

Pulls primary from territory and puts on quote as primary. No sales person on customer.

Post process Quote.GetCustomerInfo

Start -> condition (ttQuoteHed.SalesRepCode of changed is “”) -> custom code (below)

foreach (var ttqt in (from qt in ttQuoteHed

                                  where qt.RowMod == IceRow.ROWSTATE_ADDED

                                  select qt))

            {

                var terr = (from ter in Db.SalesTer where ter.TerritoryID == ttqt.TerritoryID select ter).FirstOrDefault();

                ttqt.SalesRepCode = terr.PrimeSalesRepCode;
