E10: 9.05.702A Progress Database Migration Error

Agreed. That was in response to the suggestion to manually create the DB first.
Because the migration process would detect that the DB existed, it would prompt that it had to first delete it, which would make the manually created DB step ineffective.

That is how it should work… It will always prompt you to enter that password.

If I were to create the interim DB before hand, the mirgration process will prompt me to enter a password of “DE Migration” to first delete the interim DB.

Yes, the progress DB is running. I have the App Server stopped though. I can log into the E9 Admin Tools.

How I was able to get it to work is.

Create a blank DB in SQL and make sure you give permissions for the administrative account!! Use that DB as the interim DB for Migration.

Going back a couple steps. Do you know for sure the E9 DB is started?

Thanks Jose.

I tried this and got the same thing.

Here is what I did:

1) Shared the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA with a share name of DATA

2) Updated the Output folder to: \\SERVERNAME\DATA<file:///\\SERVERNAME\DATA<file:///\\SERVERNAME\DATA%3cfile:\SERVERNAME\DATA>>

3) Restarted the migrations process.

4) Same error

If I look in the output folder, I see the two database files (MDF, LDF), CreateDB.sql, and ProgressToSQLMigration_TableStatistics.txt
So it can access this folder and create files but still the same error.

You need to share the folder where your SQL DataBase will be created your temporary DB. And make that the output folder should be something like
C:\ProgramFIles\Microsoft SQL\MSSQL\DATa

The output folder is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output

That needs to be (at least in my case when I've done it) that needs to be the same folder that contains your MDF SQL file for the Intermediate DB and it needs to be a shared location such as \\XX\myServer\XX<file:///\\XX\myServer\XX<file:///\\XX\myServer\XX%3cfile:\XX\myServer\XX>>
If you are installing the intermediate DB in the local SQL Express then make sure you share the folder where the DB will be placed and make that the Output Folder

I am running the database migration on the 9.05 server.

My Progress Parameter file path is valid. Just confirmed it.
The output folder is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output

There appear to be no other options for directories that I can change.
The process is creating the interim database in the output path above.
The whole thing only runs for less than a minute before it craps out.

Jose, to your reply, I’m not sure I follow. When you say “So it would be a shared directory on your sql server” do you mean on my E10 server or on the E9.05 server?

Thanks for both responses.

We have one server that is setup as a 9.05.702A server that I installed the E10 Admin Console and SQL Server Express and our E10.0.700.2 is installed on a separate server.

I shared the output folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output) with a share name of “ProgressOutput”.

The output folder is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output

That needs to be (at least in my case when I've done it) that needs to be the same folder that contains your MDF SQL file for the Intermediate DB and it needs to be a shared location such as \\XX\myServer\XX
If you are installing the intermediate DB in the local SQL Express then make sure you share the folder where the DB will be placed and make that the Output Folder

Thanks Jose,

I reread the instructions and I missed this.
However, after making this change, the same thing happened.

I shared the output folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output) with a share name of “ProgressOutput”.
I then change the output folder to \\SERVERNAME\ProgressOutput<file:///\\SERVERNAME\ProgressOutput<file:///\\SERVERNAME\ProgressOutput%3cfile:\SERVERNAME\ProgressOutput>>
Do I have this right?

The output folder is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Epicor Software Corporation\Database Manager Extensions\3.0.7\DB Migration\Progress Output

That needs to be (at least in my case when I've done it) that needs to be the same folder that contains your MDF SQL file for the Intermediate DB and it needs to be a shared location such as \\XX\myServer\XX<file:///\\XX\myServer\XX>
If you are installing the intermediate DB in the local SQL Express then make sure you share the folder where the DB will be placed and make that the Output Folder

Jose, to your reply, I’m not sure I follow. When you say “So it would be a shared directory on your sql server” do you mean on my E10 server or on the E9.05 server?

I tried this and got the same thing.

Here is what I did:

1) Shared the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA with a share name of DATA

2) Updated the Output folder to: \\SERVERNAME\DATA

3) Restarted the migrations process.

4) Same error

If I look in the output folder, I see the two database files (MDF, LDF), CreateDB.sql, and ProgressToSQLMigration_TableStatistics.txt
So it can access this folder and create files but still the same error.

Thanks Jose.

I tried this and got the same thing.

Here is what I did:

1)      Shared the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA with a share name of DATA

Try this now that you have the files in the right share

Delete your Interim DB completely (Files and remove it fromt he SQL Server)
Delete all the files in that folder that were created.

Try again.

If it doesn't work, try putting your interim DB in your MAIN SQL Box (Maybe SQL Express doesn't work right with it)
And share out its FOlder and make it the Output Location (This is how I've done it and it has worked every time)

We have one server that is setup as a 9.05.702A server that I installed the E10 Admin Console and SQL Server Express
and our E10.0.700.2 is installed on a separate server.

Thanks Jose.

I tried this and got the same thing.

Here is what I did:

1) Shared the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA with a share name of DATA

How I was able to get it to work is.

Create a blank DB in SQL and make sure you give permissions for the administrative account!! Use that DB as the interim DB for Migration.

Going back a couple steps. Do you know for sure the E9 DB is started?

Here is what I did:

1) Shared the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA with a share name of DATA

2) Updated the Output folder to: \\SERVERNAME\DATA

3) Restarted the migrations process.

4) Same error

If I look in the output folder, I see the two database files (MDF, LDF), CreateDB.sql, and ProgressToSQLMigration_TableStatistics.txt
So it can access this folder and create files but still the same error.

C:\ProgramFIles\Microsoft SQL\MSSQL\DATa

I am running the database migration on the 9.05 server.

My Progress Parameter file path is valid. Just confirmed it.
The output folder is:

There appear to be no other options for directories that I can change.
The process is creating the interim database in the output path above.
The whole thing only runs for less than a minute before it craps out.

Jose, to your reply, I’m not sure I follow. When you say “So it would be a shared directory on your sql server” do you mean on my E10 server or on the E9.05 server?

2) Updated the Output folder to: \\SERVERNAME\DATA<file:///\\SERVERNAME\DATA>

3) Restarted the migrations process.

4) Same error

If I look in the output folder, I see the two database files (MDF, LDF), CreateDB.sql, and ProgressToSQLMigration_TableStatistics.txt
So it can access this folder and create files but still the same error.

You need to put the log file location in the same as your intermediate db file. So it would be a shared directory on your sql server

You need to put the log file location in the same as your intermediate db file. So it would be a shared directory on your sql server

Hi All,

Just curious if anyone has run into this.
Following the migration instructions, I installed the E10 Epicor Administrator Console and SQL Server 2012 Express.
I started the Database Migration Process from the 702A server and on the first step, it is throwing the error below fairly quickly.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

Starting Execution Phase...
- OpenEdgeMigration
