E9 - PO suggestions for unfirm jobs

Yes, suggestions were frustrating for me when I first started trying to look at all types. And I think I wasted a lot of time trying multiple configurations just to stop generating certain ones.

>>it wouldn't be too difficult to filter them out
Now I think it is better to have too many rather than too few.
They are just "suggestions" & I've gotten used to building filtered views.

You'd probably find an equal number of people in each camp that would say yay or nay as to whether or not it should. In our business model we benefit from the fact that it does for planning and forecasting purposes. I don't think you can stop them from being created, but if it doesn't make sense in your world, in most cases it wouldn't be too difficult to filter them out and not look at them.

It would seem to me that unless a job is firm, i.e. acknowledged by the scheduler, purchasing should ignore PO suggestions for unfirm jobs. What does everyone else think? If my thought has merit, why then does Epicor make PO suggestions for unfirm jobs? Is there a way to turn that off?

Thanks,

I can say that it has done that for a long time (my experience dates back to 8.03.305).

We are still learning our way with Epicor its approach to MRP and we are wondering if it makes sense that MRP makes PO suggestions for unfirm MRP jobs.

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks Rob. I certainly understand the positive of a "heads up" and I also understand the pros and cons of acting on that "heads up".
