Subcontract PO Suggestions 9.05

Release should have not matter, that's for controlling labor, otherwise correct.

You need to firm/engineer/schedule (and I believe release).

Thanks Robert.

Comparing against what you are doing, it looks like we have everything except a price embedded in the method details. Just to be clear though, should we see the PO suggesting for UNfirm jobs or do we need to firm and release them to make the suggestions happen for subcontract OPs?

Continuing with our MRP / scheduling testing, we have a question related to outside operations (subcontract) and PO suggestions. The question is, when should we see the suggestions? We have created a stock demand by setting a minimum, then run MRP. We see all the unfirm jobs related to the demand, plus the PO suggestions for materials, but we do not see PO suggestions for the subcontract operations. Should we be able to see the suggestions at this point or do we need to firm and release the jobs before they will pop up? Are there any other magic (settings) needed to get this working?

Thanks,

We are on 8.03 but if the method for the part has the subcontract op set up properly (make sure it is a subcontract OP!) the correct vendor code is referenced & a lead time offset & price imbedded in the method/job details, it should work.
Â
Part you are making must have the generate PO suggestions checked (even though it is a fab part).
Â
There will need to be an active supplier-part record as well to tie it all together.
Â
Not necessary to make it the primary supplier (in fact this can cause problems with MRP when generating unfirmed jobs - it will use the primary supplier lead time rather than the MRP lt in part plant).
Â
That is the trick to v8. Hope it translates OK to v9.

The PO suggestion will appear after you firm the job. The process we use is to have the planner (different person than the buyers) firm the job and set it as she desires (quantity, due date, etc). She adds any notes ('This is super hot!') to the operation comments.

Then she leaves the job as unreleased.

When MRP runs it will generate the PO suggestion. The buyer adjusts the PO as they see fit (quantity, due date, price, etc) and when finished with the PO delivers a physical copy to the planner.

The planner uses this to trigger her to go back into the job, adjust quantity, dates, and subcontract pricing and leadtime on the job to match the PO. She then locks the quantity and schedule and releases the job. She adds the job traveler to the PO packet and it's off to inventory to Kit and prepare for subcontract shipment.

A little more than you were asking for you but it is a bit of tricky process to get running cleanly.

I appreciate the detail Tom. It's very helpful to see how people actually use the system.
