Email Global Alerts

Oh and BTW, the issue goes away when you upgrade to 8.xx.

You will find there are several free (or shareware) small mail servers
out there (even for Windows OS). They can be installed on a local
sever. You can direct Vantage to the small internal mail server and set
each client to collect from that server as a separate account to collect
from on the client. This is what I had to do before I brought our
hosting in-house. I can't remember the server I used at the time, but
it was rather basic. All you really need is an SMTP/POP3 server that
allows you to create accounts for your users. A quick search for "free
mail server for windows" on Google turns up tons of results. It's
really a very simple thing to set up. The trick is to find one that
will allow the malformed emails from Vantage. I know the exist because
I used one for a couple years.
Best of luck,

We just changed over from hosting our on website to a third parts
hosting it for us. I can not receive any global alerts. When I force
a tick it gets hung up. I am using vantage 6.10.
Below is the last entry of an old call from 2004. For what it's worth, our
web/email host had a theory of why global alerts ceased to work when I
upgraded to 6.1. The bottom line (according to our host) is that the e-mail
format of Vantage is inconsistent with industry standards. It came to a
battle between our host and Epicor, "It's not my problem; it's yours". Of
course that translates to it's MY problem now. It has not been fixed and I
no longer have global alerts.

David:
The below is a response from my e-mail host. He has over 100 clients for
hosting e-mail and web sites. That's all he does. I believe he knows what
he's talking about.

It's a very simple problem, with a very simple
solution. Properly terminate the line endings on the outgoing emails
generated by Vantage: \r\n (carriage return + line feed) instead of just a
line feed (\n). This is written as a STANDARD in the applicable RFCs. Just
because other MTAs may accept a incorrectly formatted email, does not mean
everyone else should.

For an explanation as to why these emails are rejected by our MTA (which is
qmail), and why you shouldn't "break the rules" (there is a purpose behind
standards) see: http://cr.yp.to/docs/smtplf.html

And also see section 4.1.1 of this document.

I had this problem with Microsoft CRM email also.

You will find that Exchange server (Microsoft SMTP service) does not
care about the missing \r

Different MTA's have different policies some allow it through like
Microsoft SMTP un modified, others fix them others reject them.

I found out the reason why it doesn't work. Vantage sends out
unauthenticated e-mails, and since the hosting company requires all
e-mails to require authentication it gets rejected. Is there a way to
make the program authenticate the e-mail?

Install smtp service for windows - set vantage to email through that
instead.

And or get that the relay authenticated to your host if required.

Just set up a linux box with sendmail or postfix, and qpopper. It's real
easy.
