I would love to set up the configuration but I haven’t done it yet. We are getting ready to do an implementation of a company that we bought that does datacenter power. So all of those cables would be perfect for that.
A configurator like that would actually be a fairly quick setup using the product configurator, especially if you have relatively few “base” parts (like the Patch Cords you described).
@kve True, but we sold that division so they are not mine now. But IMO server racks and cabinets are fairly uniform, so I think the OPs configs would also not be too difficult.
STORY TIME
early in my consulting career (2006?) I had a customer who said that epicor needed to send an email after every PO Receipt was processed. The email needed to go to a rather long list of employees. I asked three simple questions:
- How many different parts are received per day? (Answer: 50-100)
- How many people will receive the email? (Answer: 5-10)
- How many of those people actually look at the emails? (Answer: Well, they only look at them if they are wanting to know if something arrived)
AH HAH!
we have a problem… we are generating tons of traffic, sending 1000s of emails per day and nobody is looking at them. This was simply a procedure to attempt to plug a hole… in fact, it was a procedure to say “Well, we told you… didn’t you check your email?”…
Instead, I said, Lets create a Dashboard: - BAQ to show all PO Receipts for the day (or week if they wanted to change the date)
- add this to a dashboard that allows filtering.
- Instruct those who are interested to use the dashboard when they want to know what has arrived
- Stop using the system as a hammer, beating people with emails.
END OF STORY
My advice: - Come to Insights 2024, and take some of the free classes
- Come to Insights 2024 EXTENDED EDUCATION (Costs more money) and take some classes in how to write BPMs and BAQs, and Dasbhaords (I think we have one, would need to verify)
- Talk to others here on EpiUsers to work out the best way to handle these types of ideas (You are already doing that… no lecture needed here)

Did anyone actually answer the question that the user asked instead of pontificating endlessly?
