Enterprise Search in 2021?

Is anybody using Enterprise Search in 2021? I’m asking around but I don’t think our users are using it. Are there any cool business cases for keeping it deployed?

We are using it yet. When we upgraded to 10.2.600 about a month ago I redeployed it. Not every user uses it but enough do to justify it. And it’s not that hard to deploy and doesn’t use many resources. Our last deployment of Enterprise Search ran for over a year without any issues. It’s a quick way to search globally for something.

My favorite is for serialized product. Enter the Serial Number and in one page see the manufacturing job, shipments, RMAs, etc. This goes for others as well like all action on a sales order.

The standard version doesn’t allow one to add your own BAQs to index UD fields. A potential replacement might be Microsoft Search. There would need to be some security to wrap around access though (company, plant, territory, plain ole’ menu…)

Since we do a lot of intercompany, this works well for us too. Being able to see items across all the companies by Serial Number is extremely helpful.

Serialization seems like a great reason to keep it around. We don’t serialize now but plan to start at some point and I can see a huge benefit across all functional areas.

My favorite Ancedotal story was from a member of an accounting department who loved it for end of month and end of year work. They hated switchign companies to look at invoices. Then realized they can just search for the invoice number with ES find it for the other compnay and open the form right up in that company context without having to switch gears. You can take this with a grain of salt but she told me she considered enterprise search ‘mission critical’ for completion of end of month activities.
