Epicor 10. Anyone gone live or going though the upgrade?

Hi Manasa,

If the table has fields like UserChar1, UserDecimal1, etc, use those fields instead of Character01, Number01, etc. as those fields are part of std. table in E10. If the user defined fields has values, it will be migrated to E10 except logical fields like CheckBox01, CheckBox02, etc field where at least record must have Yes for it to convert to E10.

Regards,
Arul

Bernie is correct. They migrate from E9 if data exists. Otherwise, they are discarded and not recreated in the E10 database.

So fields like JobHead.Number01 still exist?  I thought Jose or someone else mentioned that those fields were gone in E10?  So I was wrong in hearing that?

The Datexx, Numberxx, ShortCharxx, and Characterxx fields come over if there is data in them…..

Ted,

Then what would be a good convention for naming these fields?  I’m in the process of moving a huge customization from one area to another and I wanted to start using the UD fields since the “number01” fields are going away in E10.

I finally figured out what this was.

This error was related to there not being an initial value setup for decimal and int columns in the extended ud table in the interim database (Project_UD), even though in Extended UD Table maintenance there are initial values specified. Anyone else have this issue?

I also found out it's a bad idea to name your extended UD fields like this: UD_Number01. Starting with UD_ will cause issues down the road when moving to E10 unless they fix the issue during migration some day. This creates an issue during the UD Fields Migration process when it tries to create the constraints for the new _UD table in the E10 database.

Hi,

We are going through the motions of upgrading our Vantage 8.03.408B to Epicor 10 700.2 and have ran into a couple of issues. Has anyone else gone live on E10 or going though the upgrade? What are your experiences.

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,

We have decided to not bring along any customizations, personalizations, BAMs, BPMs , or Change log entries (over half of our current db size!)

The migration itself was not too terrible with the exception of one sql script failing during step 500

After Migration we are having problems with the GL opening balances. The verify GL program crashes. So we are working with support on that issue

Hi Bernie,

When you say “We have decided to not bring along any customizations, personalizations, BAMs, BPMs” do you mean because you no longer need them or because you are just going to recreate in 10?

Joe,

A lot of the customizations were made when we first started using Vantage over 8 years ago, and none of them are of the complexity you have

I am hoping a lot of the functionality now exists in 10 and the use of Data Directives that were not available in V8 will help out too.

Should be interesting

I have had a call open related to migrating extended UD tables since May and it still isn't resolved. I have been ready to go Live for a month or two now and can't until it's resolved, not very happy.

Hi,

We are going through the motions of upgrading our Vantage 8.03.408B to Epicor 10 700.2 and have ran into a couple of issues. Has anyone else gone live on E10 or going though the upgrade? What are your experiences.

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,
Mark

Planning to go live this weekend on E10.0.700.2 from E905.700b

A lot of work around testing and re-doing all customization

We found several financial reports that did not match E9 and either needed to correct data, get one-offs or write SSRS reports to correct issues

Have been testing the motion several times – 905.702a conversion and then E10 migration and so far looks good

Staying with Crystal reports for business forms for now as SSRS is not as flexible to design complex forms

Overall E9 db size is 65-70Gb and E10 35-40Gb post migration

Ted,
What is your issue with the Extended UD Tables? We went live without issue and we use a LOT of UD fields.

In Epicor9 I ran out of UD fields in the Project table and the ProdCal table had no UD fields. So I used extended UD table maintenance to add some fields.

During the migration task that migrates UD tables/fields (can't remember what it says) it always errors out saying object not set to an instance of an object for these two tables. I don't think it is just a coincidence that these are the only two tables I have extended UD fields on.

Hi,

We are going through the motions of upgrading our Vantage 8.03.408B to Epicor 10 700.2 and have ran into a couple of issues. Has anyone else gone live on E10 or going though the upgrade? What are your experiences.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Bw,

How big is your database? and how long did it take to do the conversion?

We have the same GL issue as you.

The basics are this:

The GL Verify programs runs through the GlJrnDtl table and reclassifies the Fiscal year and Fiscal period based on the JEData column. For some reason Vantage allows us to have journal dates that are not consistent with the Fiscal Year and Period in the company Fiscal Calender. E10 tries to fix this and cause GL balance issues or the GL Verify wont run as it can create duplicate primary keys and will then crash ( this is the issue you are having). If you want to find the bad data you need to

1) Extend the primary key on the GlJrnDtl table to include the sysrowid column

2) Rerun the GL Verify program,

3) Do a SQL query that groups and counts on all the primary keys EXCLUDING the sysrowid.

Any keys with a count > 1, you will find if you cross check against Vantage, has been altered by the GL Verify program. GL Verify also has a very irritating habit of classifying things is doesn't like as fiscal period 12 then ignoring them in the roll up and invalidating your financial data so be carefull!

We are working with Epicor Support UK to get this fixed.

Also note that in at least E10.0.702 the "Fiscal Reports" Balance sheet report is broken. If you have GLs that have multiple parent categories it list them twice creating balance conditions on the report.

Thanks,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

Database Stats:

V8.03.410    8.4 Gb

E9.04.500    14.6 Gb

E9.05.702a    15 Gb

Interim Sql Db    26.3 Gb

E10 Db    49.3 Gb mdf and a 9.85 Gb ldf

Just a little over 5 hours to Migrate the 9.05.702a db to E10

I did not keep accurate times to upgrade 8.03.405a to 9.05.702a suffice to say it took at least a full 8 hrs which includes a dump and load (to get rid of change log records)

the Dump and load and conversion from 8.03.405a to 8.03.410 was done on a VM with 4 processors and 8 Gb of memory

The upgrade of 8.03.410 to 9.05.702a and the DB Migration to the E10 server was done on a VM with 8 processors (only 4 were ever used) and 32 Gb of memory

Both VMs running on a raid 10 SSD array

Were you able to get the GL figures to match the source DB ?

bw

Hi Bw,

Technically the figures do match. IE the data is moved as is from V8 to E10 it's the GL Verify program that messes them up. Epicor have sent a fix but it err needs fixing. I have, however come up with a more elegant solution to finding problem GL Transactions. Ths following should be portable, with some changes, to Vantage 8 so people can see if they have a problem before trying the upgrade. The following will list every GL Transaction that has a JEDate that is not consistent with its associated calender, fiscalyear and fiscal period:

SELECT      Erp.GLJrnDtl.Company,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.JEDate,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalYear,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalPeriod,
            Erp.FiscalPer.StartDate,
            Erp.FiscalPer.EndDate,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.JournalNum,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.JournalLine,
            Erp.GLJrnDtl.JournalCode,
            Erp.FiscalPer.FiscalYearSuffix
FROM        Erp.GLJrnDtl INNER JOIN
                Erp.FiscalPer ON Erp.GLJrnDtl.Company = Erp.FiscalPer.Company AND Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalYear = Erp.FiscalPer.FiscalYear AND
                Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalYearSuffix = Erp.FiscalPer.FiscalYearSuffix AND Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalPeriod = Erp.FiscalPer.FiscalPeriod AND
                Erp.GLJrnDtl.FiscalCalendarID = Erp.FiscalPer.FiscalCalendarID
WHERE        (Erp.GLJrnDtl.JEDate NOT BETWEEN Erp.FiscalPer.StartDate AND Erp.FiscalPer.EndDate)

The odd thing I'm finding is the upgrade from V8 to E10 actually corrects the issues in the Journal with code 'pj' but seemingly ignores the others.

Ted,

Then what would be a good convention for naming these fields?  I’m in the process of moving a huge customization from one area to another and I wanted to start using the UD fields since the “number01” fields are going away in E10.

The Datexx, Numberxx, ShortCharxx, and Characterxx fields come over if there is data in them…..

From what I have seen in version 700.3 the system automatically puts _c at the end of all new extended UD fields and you can't remove it.

So fields like JobHead.Number01 still exist?  I thought Jose or someone else mentioned that those fields were gone in E10?  So I was wrong in hearing that?

The Datexx, Numberxx, ShortCharxx, and Characterxx fields come over if there is data in them…..

Interesting…ok thanks guys!  Manasa

Bernie is correct. They migrate from E9 if data exists. Otherwise, they are discarded and not recreated in the E10 database.
