Epicor 9.05.702 - Anyone embracing QRM (Quick Response Manufactu

>>topic
Maybe for starters, any thoughts on when "lean" isn't efficient?

>> we make to stock and don’t use MRP
That capital equipment mfg. I mentioned earlier is mostly stock too.
- In their case one machine order MRP will generate approx 400 PO suggestions and 200 job suggestions.
- The majority of materials are NOT non-stock, a couple reasons:
---- Purchasing has trouble with the number of PO's when they tried non-stock
---- Mfg could not keep track of materials received directly to the jobs - parts in bins just so they can find them.

>>so
knowing what sales release actually trigger the job to get created
>>and
link it to is a problem.
Same problem.
They're using timephase, custom reports & custom dashboards are used to identify demand/supply links... based on dates.
Purchasing is manually creating fewer PO's manually setting of dates & qtys.

They tested the system running non-stock (lean).
It was definitely easier to understand supply/demand but resulted in more transactions.
Finally considered non value adding, too much "busy work".

Switched to doing more manually, consolidating to fewer transactions.... in general.
However it is much more difficult to verify supply/demand.
Especially when more than one machine order is in WIP.

All,

Would anyone like to open the discussion on using Epicor with QRM (Quick Response Manufacturing)  by Rajan Suri – A Companywide Approach to Reducing Lead Times.
We are looking into it. Any reporting ideas, dashboards, etc… to embrace elements of QRM?

Thx

I  would be interested in what others have to say.
>>QRM
Thanks, I'm also interested in hearing what others are doing.

I had not heard of QRM before this...
Just stated checking it out here  http://www.rajansuri.com/why_qrm

Already looks like it is touching on some unresolved issues
There are a couple local manufacurers of capitol equipment manufacturers who have struggled with teh suggestions in Epicor.
The worst case I saw purchasing fighting with the system...
They started by ignoring suggestions and managing their dates/quantities.. which resulted in the system responding with ever increasing floods of suggestions.
They finally ended up building a custom time phase and began manually entering POs.

I guess you and I can start the discussion.

MCT = Manufacturing Critical Path Time

Finding it hard for us to calculate we make to stock and don’t use MRP so knowing what sales release actually trigger the job to get created and link it to is a problem.

Do you have any topics?
