Here is how I do it in abl. data directive - in transaction.
No condition
Action is execute ABL. Paste in the code below.
The first line makes all parts upper case and removes any leading spaces from the part number. Second line is the user who made the part and third line is the date.
you will need to change the ShortChar and Date for your environment.

For each ttPart where ttPart.Rowmod = 'A' no-lock.
Assign ttpart.PartNum = caps(trim(ttpart.partnum)).
Assign ttPart.ShortChar05 = dcd-userid.
Assign ttPart.Date01 = Now.
End.

You may want to consider a data directive for when parts get added, that’s what we do here, Part.Date01 or something, display as a born on date etc…

Do you use revisions? the revision gets a date assigned so you could look at the first rev and find the date.
