Epicor 9 can't enter new order line - error "Customer Part SX-51

If you are getting an error message that says the "customer part already exists", someone is trying to add a "customer part number" on a sales order that already has a customer part cross reference set up between your part number and that customer part number.

Go to Customer Part Cross Reference (Sales Management > Order Management > Setup > Customer Part Cross Reference).  Key in the customer number (or click the search button to search for them).  The system should bring up a list of your parts that have a Customer Part Number for that customer associated with each one of your parts that you sell them (or the ones that have had a cross reference set up for them).

Someone has keyed in your selling part number on a sales order line then keyed in a customer part number in the Customer Part Number field on that same line.  The system automatically creates a Customer Part Cross Reference for that customer with your selling part number and their part number.

So, that customer part number must already exists in the cross reference for a different part that you sell this customer which is why you are getting the error message.

What our order entry team does when creating the customer part cross reference (if in fact the customer uses the same part number for both parts) is put our selling part number in parenthesis after the customers part number in the Customer Part Number field to make it a different Customer Part Number.

The system does not allow you to have the same customer part number for two different selling part numbers in your Part master table.
