Epicor Kinetic Innovation Moves to the Cloud: On-Premises Development Ends in 2028

@leonardpothier thank you for noticing and bringing this forward to the rest of the community. Yes, we have added this to EpiCare, as well as adding a section in our CAM CRM to gather together all the comments and questions.
We also meet daily to go over the new incoming comments from EpiCare, CAMs, User Forums (EUG, EpiUsers, BisTrack, P21’s WWUG) to gather and discuss all the information.
Thank you all for the continued civil conversations and comments.

No thanks.

Would be great if info could be shared regarding affiliated hosting providers.

Interesting to note that in <2 days, this is #6 all time for replies on this site, likely #4 by the end of today. And mostly one sided.

For now Epicor is doing what we need. Listening, watching and hopefully learning. :crossed_fingers:

I meant in terms of support of the announcement, ie, no one’s clamoring for 2028. But I do appreciate that they’re watching.

I am going for the number 1 slot… no need to be 4th place on the forum  .

I don’t think I’d be proud of going to number one for this post.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad we can have this discussion here. Hopefully Epicor is paying attention to it.

As important as this topic is, it needs to be #1.

We’re already SaaS but damn this sounds great! If Epicor would do this thread would hit #1 status.

I’ll be careful with what I say here, but we did just get an email from our Azure vendor saying they have a “custom cloud” solution that appears to be sanctioned by Epicor. I won’t name the vendor, but it seems like they’re on the list. We would still need to move to the SaaS model, but the service is described as a private cloud environment.

I don’t disagree. But it’s too bad it’s not a better topic.

Will you still have database access? And control of the upgrade schedule?

I will be following up with the vendor as well as our Epicor CAM, as we don’t have any additional information about the service right now.

Okay, then move to a Custom Cloud environment. Have your provider or seek a provider that has a custom cloud option that allows you to maintain control of you entire environment. So the question is, what is a Custom Cloud environment:

Custom Cloud environments is a fully managed environment that allow you to maintain control, security, and performance of your infrastructure.

If you move to a custom cloud environment you will need to update your licensing with the provider of your choice that has a partnership with Epicor. They are out there, just Google it.

I have spoken with my provider and they assure I will have the same control with the migration as I do today.

Is that better, Jose!

Epicor publishing a list of their affiliated hosting providers would be better than having to “Google it”.

Hopefully that is in the works, the fact that it was not specifically called out in the announcement is a big disappointment IMHO, it kind of changes a lot of the conversation.

I can understand the idea that they are still putting that together but it should have been explicit in the announcement that they would be working with select partners to also allow them to host it to provide more ‘granular’ options.

Yes exactly! Allow me to show you my private cloud environment located behind this door labeled “Server Room”. A hybrid option of sorts.

I’m far from active on these forums and mostly use them as a tool to learn by just lurking and reading existing posts on topics, but I wanted to do my part and stop by and say I’m far from a fan of these changes and I am glad I am not alone in that. Losing the classic interface and then being forced into regular updates will put serious strain on us as a relatively small business with a staff who has been working in classic for ~20 years and is resistant to change.

As soon as I read the e-mail yesterday I was furious. On-Prem is the main reason we are with Epicor, I cannot stand my company being at the mercy of an internet connection. As for our future with Epicor, we will probably install the final version in 2028 and once patching stops, we will terminate our support contract. I am probably going to begin looking into new ERP systems and hope they backtrack this decision by next year. If not, we will get more serious about a new ERP. Or we will just run the last version for 5+ years without support. Our system is not exposed to the outside world so running an old version isn’t really a big deal. In 10 years we have upgraded twice and working on our third. So that schedule should put us into mid 2030’s before we need to migrate.

I’m trying to decide, do I go to insights and voice concern or not go at all in protest?
