You should put it in a Kanban vic, that would make it all better.

Sorry if I was confusing..
Hypothetically, say we had a 20' length in stock for whatever reason.
Customer calls and orders Qty 4 of 5' pieces of pipe. We then use that
stock pipe as material on a new job to whack it into 4 equal pieces.

If you are only using 5' of the 20' wouldn't the other 15' go back to
inventory?

(Vantage 8.03.409C Progress)
Sometimes we will take something in Finished Goods and use it as a
material
on a new Job.
For example, we may have a 20' length of pipe in stock that we
manufactured
a couple months ago. A customer may want 5' lengths instead of 20'. So we
take that pipe, add it to a job as a material and then cut the pipe
accordingly.
When we do this and that 20' length of pipe is in WIP, the whole pipe's
cost
(matl+labor) shows as only "Material$" on the WIP report. That's good. But
when we turn it into inventory, it relieves WIP and breaks out ALL labor
on
the pipe (including the original labor hours to create the length of 20'
pipe).
Is there a way to beat the system and treat that 20' length of pipe on the
2nd job as a true "material" as if I purchased it? Perhaps purchase it
from
myself and issue it to a job?
TIA.
