File definitions-fields-number of records

Ann,

There is a progress command you can run to get the number of records in each
table.
I forget what the command was but you should be able to call Epicor and get
it.
It is used to display the scatter factor for each table in determining
weather or not to do a dump and load. On of the first columns of the output
is the number of records per table.
Ask tech support for one of the dump and load experts and ask to see the
scatter factor for each table is. I remember you can run the command on a
live database. I will keep searching my records for the syntax of the
command it was something like.

Proutil db-name -C tabanalys

Try it on your training database to be safe.

Data dictionary will give you: "File definitions - a listing of each file,
the fields contained in the file". You can save it electronically to a pdf
and send it to them.

As far as # of records in each table, I do not know of a file that will do
this (although that doesn't mean there isn't one). Do they really need to
know # of records in every table or only the active records that you would
have to transfer? You would probably need to run reports on your tables to
come up with this. Same thing for open orders, po's and jobs, would need to
run a report to determine.

Our mother company has requested that I supply them with the following
information for future data conversion estimated costs to another ERP
system. We are doing as much as possible to stay on Vantage (we have 10
years of history on it). I will continue to work towards a Vantage upgrade
and barcoding until I have been told that we must make the change.
Management at our facility is backing Vantage.

Regardless, I need to supply them with the information in a timely manner.
Our DB is over 4 GB. I was hoping someone could point me in the right
direction to find the information they are requesting.
Possibly the tables to use in Report Builder or which reports out of data
dictionary - what will supply me with information and record counts from the
actual data in our db.

Information requested: "File definitions - a listing of each file, the
fields contained in the file, and the number of records. Also I need the
average length of an open order and an open PO. We want to determine what
files we'll electronically convert, which ones we may key, and how we'll
handle the transaction files such as open orders."

All help is greatly appreciated - online or off - you are welcome to call
me.

Thanks!

Go into the Progress Tool called "Data Dictionary" and look under menu
item "Database" - "Reports". Make sure the tool is hooked up to a
Vantage database -- works alot better this way. ; )

And you might want to be careful which reports you send to the printer.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I have generated some good reports here, Thank you. (I already have
a report that shows the size of each file extent in the db folder.)
The final thing I would like to try to get is how many records AMFAB
has in each table. Is that even possible?

Thanks much!

I was interested in this so I wrote a program to list each table,
field and record count. The dialog lets you choose which table to
start and end with.

I am about to upload the source code to the file section.

If you or anyone wishes to run it, I would suggest linking it to your
training database. I would think it would take a few hours to run
for all.

If questions, email ldrew@..., and I'll respond this
evening.

Good luck,
Lonnie
