Has anyone been able to edit SSRS reports in 2024.2?

we are currently on 10.2.700 and we are testing 2024.2 in our pilot environment.
when making a change to the SSRS report with report builder, the change doesnt print and then the RDL changes back to the original prior to printing. and the modified by shows the service account.

You’re opening the SSRS report in Report Builder directly from the reportserver webpage? Is it possible they’re saving locally?

I would try downloading/saving it locally, making your changes, then uploading them using the upload button on in the directory on the reportserver page, and see if you see the same behavior.

That didnt work.

I’m with Kevin, it sounds like your reports are never making it to the upgraded PILOT environment. Given the confusion, I would recommend simply downloading your files via Report Style from your LIVE environment to your PC, open them make a simple change, like changing the font color of the title to another color, then using Report Style maintenance in the PILOT environment, upload the edited rdl file. It sounds like you prefer working on the report sever instead of locally, this will at least get your files in the right place and give you a little bit of extra confirmation that it is the correct file in the correct environment. From there you can work on the report server to do whatever you need to do to get your files working correctly in the upgraded PILOT environment.

we tried that. the file will then show the change when opening up the RDL again. even show my name as the modified by. but as soon as a print happens it reverts back and the modified by updates to the admin account in the EAC.

I’m with the others, something seems wrong. Verify the “Report Location” for your custom style is going into starts with: reports/customreports/…

location has been verified numerous times.

the strange thing is why is the EAC account editing the RDL?
download RDL > make a change> upload RDL to same location > Changed by now shows my name.
Run the process payments print checks
RDL then updates to this. Changed by is showing the EAC account

What is your location of this file? I’m assuming it’s in the customreports folder? In later releases, reports don’t deploy to the report server until a print is ran, but if a report is there, it shouldn’t be getting overwritten. Also, to be fair, I don’t know how the report server looks when upgrading to one of the later releases (instead of just a fresh environment), if all the rdl files go ahead and deploy over or not. Another thing, once you run the print and it overwrites, if you make another change, does it overwrite again?

we thought about that too so after the first time it did this bug, we made a solution from Prod and redeployed the Reports style, RDD and RDL to pilot
then made another change > saved > changed by would show our names, run a check print > old RDL would print and Changed by updates again to service account

I’m wondering if it’s something along the lines of security or permission settings on the reportserver. If the agent isn’t able to “see” the uploaded RDL because of the user that changed it. So when you go to print, it either can’t find it or doesn’t recognize it as valid because of the owner / last modified user, so it replaces it with the base file.

Would it be possible to log in or edit it as the “epicordev” account, and upload it as that user?

This is the reply we got from epicor support.

To avoid this issue, one should use the the Kinetic Generate for Design functionality so that any changes to custom reports are uploaded/maintained through the Kinetic application.

I think if it was a permission issue, i wouldn’t be able to save the change the first time i save.

I was thinking it might be the permissions of the epicordev user, not your permissions. I’m thinking the epicordev account might not be able to see or recognize the file if it isn’t the owner.

so we followed Epicors instructions from
KB0130203 - Using the Generate for Design Functionality to Modify Reports
and still the file reverts back.

I’ve never bothered with the Generate for Design. Seems like a lot of moving parts and the only thing you gain is the preview?

I just do the Download/Upload directly via Report Style Maintenance. I also use the classic version because whoever made the Kinetic version has clearly never had to modify reports before.

It’s more useful for SaaS Cloud customers but I’ve gotten used to it now.

we attempted that way too. still not working. the RDL is reverting back to before we saved the file. Epicor told us to try the generate for design, lots of extra steps but still printing the updated RDL.

I don’t know if it’s related, but we just upgraded to 2024.2.8 from 2023.2.14, and could not overwrite the broken ARForm with our fixed RDL from our test environment.

Here’s my notes from our reporting manager:

The fixed RDL from Upgrade environment didn’t work - couldn’t overwrite the files in 2024.2. Seems like a partial overwrite. Made a new report file on report server, then pointed the report style to the new rdl on the server.

seems like a bug with 2024.2
we have an epicare ticket in.
@timshuwy Have you seen this happen before?

Keep in mind that SSRS reports are stored in the database now
