Help menu tab redirection

I'm on version 5.0 I was having the same issues with help files not working.
I have a backup Vantage installation for disaster recovery where the help
files do work. I noticed in the file structure where the help didn't work
the "HELP" file was on a path N:\epic50\vantage\im\help where as in the
installation where the "HELP" worked the file path was
N:\epic50\vantage\help. So I made a copy of the "HELP" directory and moved
it to N:\EPIC50\VANTAGE\HELP. VIOLA help was working again in all the right
places.

Jim,
If Todd's plan does not work, I think in the files section of the group site
has a .reg file that may fix the problem. There was some discussion a while
back about a patch to windows that created this type of problem. I had to
apply the fix, reboot and apply it again for it to work for me, but that may
just be me.

We are unable to access our Vanatge help menu by clicking on Help. We
get an error message telling us that the web page is unavailable. We
don't have a maintenance agreement and I belive the default help is
through the Epicor site.

I have just resently been informed the location of the help files
loaded on our server during insallation. The location of the of the
help file is w:\mfgsys61\help\vntg_enu.

How do I reconfigure the Help menu button to look at the file on our W:
drive as the default location. This would allow every one access to to
the help files.

In Vantage under Utilities look for Language Maintenance and open it.
There will probably be one line if you have not setup multiple languages.
Click on Edit then Update
Check the path to the Help file: should look something like---help\vantage.mvb
If this is OK so far then the problem is very likely in the mapped drive letter being referend wrong in one of the .mfg or .ini files. In the mfgsys61 folder look for mfg.ini and vantage.mfg and double check that any references to \mfgsys61 have w: with them instead of some other letter. Most of the internal file paths assume something like w:\mfgsys61\ in front of them (to use your drive letter) where W: = \\servername\epicor .

Not gauranteed any of this will fix it but these are the 1st places I would look.

PS...I know it hurts like mad for support costs but in the long run this group (good as it is) can not be a total substitute. Everyone will be willing to help but there will eventually be an issue that will hit a dead end. Aside from lobbying your management try working with your CAM for some sort of payment arrangement that can smooth out the hit.

Jim,

I had a similar problem before but I managed to fix it up. You can
go to the register from 'Run...' then type in 'regedit', then go to
the directory:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]

then open and set the MaxAllowedZone = 1

OR go to 'Files' link in this group then go to the
Misc->vantage_help.reg someone has uploaded this. so just save and
run it.

That should fix problem.
