Kevin, they have to use it as a scare tactic. I would, too. There are a
LOT of "challenged" customers out there. A LOT. :-) Of course none of
them are on this Yahoo list, however.
If anyone has been or is a consultant on this list, I'm sure we've all
walked into companies and stood in silent disbelief, and then left with a
great story for our colleagues. :-) I've seen the production server in the
break room plugged into the same power strip that the microwave and coffee
pot were plugged into. And, the coffee pot was sitting on top of the
server. So could it be possible for the 18-yr old "computer whiz" intern to
do a TRUNCATE Table InvcMisc because he thought it was a temporary log
table? :-) Yeah.
But then there are a lot of responsible, careful and educated folks, like
us, out here. You have to screw up pretty bad for them to void your
warranty and the process isn't necessarily black-and-white. But they have
to have something rigid in place to cover themselves (legally) from customer
carelessness.

I love how Epicor provides you with the tools to update data in your
database via ABL code, pushes that flexibility while they're selling you
their product, then fall back on the "it will void your warranty" when you
try to use it. I can see how they can, and should, take the approach that
if you update data via code, and that causes problems in the database that
they're not responsible. But it irks me when they throw out the "it will
void your warranty" as a scare tactic.

If they ever did that, what would be your next best steps? Couldn't you just
restore your DB from a backup before it was monkeyed with and move on with
warranty yet? I'm not voided just really curious about how they could truly
call it a permenant void unless you have modified their source code for the
actual application?
