Insights for IT

>> I'm trying to find out how this is going to benefit my company or myself.
One of the more subjective questions you could ask?
Regardless, I'd always recommend you go to Insights when you can.

>>  two classes today
>> about 10 minutes of useful info in 8 hours
Yes, I expect at least some review in courses.
Epicor must accommodate beginners as well as advanced users..
But... I think it's worse when I've found I can't use what I learned because I need a module(s).

Unfortunately no Insights for me this year.
Few ERP projects in the pipeline and no E10 for at least another year.

Hey, everybody:

My boss sent me and a co-worker to this conference in Nashville.  She's more on the production management side, and I'm on the IT side.   I haven't been registered for any extended learning classes, so I'm trying to find out how this is going to benefit my company or myself.

Any suggestions?  The technical booklet Insights put together is very helpful.

Thanks.

I took two classes today and feel there was about 10 minutes of useful information in 8 hours of coursework.  I had hoped that the advanced technical course would be led by a developer / someone who knew the product inside out, but that did not happen.  It seems like he hadn't even been through the course himself which led to all of us spending additional time struggling through issues that could have been spent learning new things.  It reminded me of when we had consultants on site trying to show us how to use Epicor's tools.  There were times we had to figure out things on our own and ended up showing the Epicor consultant how to do it.  Soapbox rambling aside, I do feel like a learned a few new tricks that I did not know until today.  I hope I am wrong in saying this, but my experience says they are good introductory courses but if you are looking for something advanced, it is unlikely.

I didn’t take any this year, but I did last year.  I picked up a few things I didn’t already know during class, but the interaction with the instructors and the people I met is still providing benefits now a year later.

Thanks.

A couple recommendations.

Hit up the classes taught by EUG members. They tend to be more free with how they are using the system, rather just telling you the Epicor “line.” This is helpful.

Attend any you can on advanced programming, customizations, bpms, etc. These are usually the goldmines. Even if you can’t code, you’ll see some fantastic things that can be done, and it can be very helpful. Furthermore, the people who are attending these classes are the ones you want to network with. If they know enough to code complicated stuff, you can sure bet they can cut POs and process jobs with the best of them.

Walk out of any class that is lame after the first ten minutes and try another. They aren’t taking attendance and it is a waste of time to sit through classes that just don’t hit it for you.

Abuse the breakfast, lunch and dinner times. Sit with the Epicor guys/gals and ask them questions. They can be a real resource if you get the right ones.

I feel like today was leaps and bounds better than yesterday.  I think it really depends on the instructor and the group you are with.  I hope you were able to attend something worthwhile today.
