Inventory Tags

I would like to add the UOM to the inventory tags. Does anyone know how
to do this?

Just amazing that they don't include that, ehh ?!

Last time I ran it, we were on Vantage 3.0. At that point it is not in
available in the inventory tags' .DBF file. For us, having the UoM on the
tags is absolutely essential to getting an accurate and useful inventory count.

IIRC, Crystal required a data file with the PartNum indexed to do the
join. I used the export utility to dump all the Part records' PartNum and
IUM fields to an Excel sheet. Then converted it to an Access DB, and used
Access to add the required PartNum index. Then was able to add the table
to the Crystal form to get the UoM on the tags.

ODBC would be a bunch easier! I haven't checked 4.0 to see if it's been
added, but I doubt it. At least I'll be able to do it via ODBC next
time. I can forward a copy of our Crystal tags form, if you like.

Has anybody modified the crystal form to include the Units Of Measure
in the inventory tags. If so what databases did you choose and what
idexes did you connect.

Anyone using the Vantage Inventory Tags can you recommend a printer
that does not jam or an alternative two part form to the Vantage tags.
We have over 8000 parts and have had to baby sit the printer after it
jams an hour into the print job. We used an Epson 880 last year.

Thanks
Does anyone out there have a way of generating "Inventory Tags" we
currently hand write a tag for all on-hand material, Part #,
Description, QTY, and Lot Number.

I can create a report on report builder with this info, but not sure how
to create the "Label" format, nor do I know how to get this generated on
a per part basis and make it simple for a person in shipping receiving
to create the label.

Any help would be appreciated

Physical Inventory Count Entry

Use this function to do all your physical inventory processing. You can
generate physical count tags, enter your physical inventory counts, print
variance reports, and post those counts to update your part master
quantities on hand.

You can assign subcomponent security for various menu options in Count
Entry. For more information, see Subcomponent Security in Count Entry.

To process physical counts, take the following steps:

1. From the Materials Management folder, the Inventory Management folder,
and the General Operations folder, select Count Entry.

2. Use the Select option on the Group menu to add or open an entry group.
You must activate a group before you can enter any physical count activity.
For further information, see Selecting a Count Entry Group.

3. Select Select Parts from the Group menu to select the parts for counting
based on the ABC codes. If this is a full physical inventory, you do not
need to select parts, as all active parts are automatically selected.

4. Select Start Count from the Group menu to start the physical count for
this entry group.

First you need to go into Inventory Module configuration and check the
box "Print Bar Codes". This turns on the labels/tags menu options on
the receipt entry screen.

Then take a look at the crystal report in userform/RCVLABEL.RPT

Modify as necessary, save with different name, and set as default in
Report Style Maintenance - Receipt Labels.

This gives nice flexibility on number of labels you wish to generate.
We customized our label to have no bar code fields, just part,
description, lot, reference. Works well.

Hello,

We are on Vantage 8.00. Every month we perform a physical count of
some part of our inventory. As part of the process, we print
inventory tags for the selected parts. We do this using Vantage,
and we print two copies of each tag using a laser printer. We then
cut the tags and staple the matching tags together and give them to
the person doing the counting. He then leaves one copy with the
part and the other goes to the person entering the counts. We're
wondering if anyone has found a more efficient way of printing tags.

We will be purchasing perforated paper for future counts, but we
will still have to staple the matching tags. Does anyone know of a
way to modify the way the tags are printed? Right now, we print two
copies that each comes out as follows, 000,001,002,003,004, etc. I
would like to have them come out in this order,
000,000,001,001,002,002, etc. That way the matching tags are already
together and can be separated by the counter. Do you know if this
is possible? Thank you for any insight or suggestions.

The tags are a crystal report so they can be modified. You need to be
somewhat experienced in crystal reports to do this though. If you have
someone in your company that is a crystal guru I would go to that person.
Otherwise I could try to explain it but it would be pretty difficult.

Thanks

Alan

I have removed or suppressed parts of the tag we will not use. Try as
I may I can not get it to print more than three on a page and there
is room for at least 5 - any Ideas on how to get the Details M to
stop expanding out to 3.6 inches instaed of stopping at 1.75?

there are no embedded lines that I can see...... and in design view
it is not expanded.

Others have already mentioned that the tags can be adjusted in
Crystal. Use the perforated sheets and print pairs side by side.
Easier than cutting and stapling.

One of our clients uses the carbonless copy inventory cards, where
you rip off the top sheet and are left with a cardstock copy. They
print stickers with the cycle count info and attach to both the
original and copy. Prep is a pain, but it reduces mistakes because
the counters are only writing 1 number. (I've debated on the
payback for the effort, but it works for them.)

In the Section Expert go to the Details section (Not Details a, b, c,
etc...) and look at the Layout Tap on the right. In there it is specifying
the Height and Width of the Detail Section. I don't know where it is getting
set. On the Common Tab "Format with Multiple Columns" is set but grayed out.
I don't know why you can not remove it. But since Vantage is generating the
XML file it could be being set there. I have not had a chance to investigate
that.

I set mine to a height of 1.75 and was able to get 6 to a page (not
generating bar codes)
