Inventory UOM on sales Order

It was the Tracking Multiple UOM and the behavior is correct in the way the UOM change, user just never noticed it before.

Is there any standard event/process that would change the value of the Inventory UOM on the sales Order?

Not to be confused with the Selling UOM.  OrderRel.SUM.  That can change based on user action.

On a sales order the Inventory UOM is pulled from the Part Record.

OrderRel.IUM.

Based on the help and that the IUM field is not accessible by the user I believe this value should not change even if the selling UOM changes.  If it starts out as LBS it should remain LBS throughout the process as it goes to Shipment and onto an Invoice.

We have a handful of orders where the inventory UOM on the Order does not match the inventory UOM on the Part Record.  It is a valid UOM for that part and the overall transactions appear ok.  It just confuses the user when they look at the OurShipQty on the shipment or invoice and it isn't in the base IUM for that part.  On my tests changing the Selling UOM doesn't change the Inventory UOM on the order.  But it obviously is happening on some orders, just haven't found the pattern.

While the user can change the selling UOM I don't think it should have any effect on the IUM.  OK if I am wrong just need to understand under what circumstances it would change.

There are customizations/BPMs/Data directives but best we can tell nothing is happening there to touch the IUM.

Is the customer tracking multiple units of measure?
If they are allowing to stock both box (of 10 each) and each in inventory, would it put box in the OrderRel.IUM?

Bruce,

Thanks for responding.  Almost all of the parts are marked to track multiple units of measure.  An associate of mine mentioned the track multiple units also but so far I haven't been able to make a connection where I can duplicate the issue at will.  I'll revisit it though to see if I didn't follow it far enough.
