The main reason that the ID is not sequenced is that you are able to import from
MS Project and similar Project Management tools. This is also the reason that
Project Tasks are not the same as tasks in Quotes, ECO, Case Management, etc.
Its because these can be imported and exported with MS Project
In other words, this was built as a pure standalone project tool. Having said
that, you could use a BPM to auto generate based on the last record entered.
There are a lot of users however that like the freeform creation of their
project ids because they have some kind of "smart numbering" built into the
project id. Some users also like it because they are tracking their customers
project ids, which can be all over the place

We are starting to investigate the use of the Project module.
I have some concerns including the project ID assigment...or lack thereof. We
have 25 project managers creating 4000 new projects every year. Freeform ID
assigment will not work for us. I can't understand why this wasn't setup like
SO, job, or PO entry. Has anyone had this issue and gotten around it? I assume
that one could use programming or Service Connect to accomplish auto-generation
of ID's.
I have some other general questions about the module and how people are using
it, how it affects financials, How users like it.
We are on 9.05.601.
