We are multi-company and the larger companies use tasks when creating quotes but we want to not use them since we only have a couple sales people and it slows us down a lot when closing old quotes.
I tried removing the default task set in company config>sales>crm but it will not let me save without selecting a task set. It will also not allow me to enter in a task set with no milestones, it errors out when the quote is created.
You need to have a task set to create a quote with CRM enabled. What we did to get around was just have one task which was not mandatory. It will get put on the quote but you don’t need to do anything with it, so just pretend it isn’t there if they are not using tasks.
How do you close the quotes if you have an open task? I get an error if the task is not complete and I try to close the quote.
That is what we also do.The quotes get closed when an order is entered against them or you can run the Expire Quotes process.

The expire quotes process only expires them based on the expiration date. It does not close the quote.
