Licensing for Web Services used it Custom Program - WCF

You can write custom software to your hearts content.
Web serives consume regular licences but only during the call. Unless you
got web service licences.

I am exploring writing some custom software to handle some areas of our business that either Epicor doesn't handle, doesn't handle well, or are simply beyond what we are willing to spend. (Our company has a current policy that essentially equates to: No more money for Epicor)

That being said, I am curious about how the web services work, from a function and licensing standpoint. As a for instance, we are not pleased with the MES interface for our shop/employees. We would like to write one ourselves, that is more intuitive for them. Since we do not currently have a data collection license, will these functions even work?

What kind of license does WCF usage consume? Are there any options here?
What are the limitations? Can custom software be utilized in place of some other modules?

I've posed these questions to our CAM without response. He may be gathering information, or, like us, not know exactly where to get the answers.

Thanks for any assistance,

Adam
There have been a few threads here on web services that you could search for. Nothing I remember in the past 2 or 3 months.

As I remember licenses are consumed per instance and that attention should be paid to releasing them.

As for your questions about features, have you looked at the documentation in the Epicor directories?
E9 - \\servername\epicor\Epicor904\WebServices
V8 - \\servername\epicor\mfgsys803\WebServices
