Mainmenu.w not found

Hi all,

I reinstalled the client software again. I'd swear I did everything the
same way as the last few times I tried, except this time I told it to
create a Report Builder icon on the desktop. Then I opened a report with
it, successfully. Then I tried my Vantage icon again, and it worked.
Maybe I did something wrong the first few times I installed it, or maybe
this time, the Report Builder icon placement jogged something in the other
one. It hadn't created the Vantage.vtg icon the first times I'd tried. No
idea why...

Thanks for your help everyone!

-H = host. Check your Host, LMHost, Wins and/or DNS for old and new
server names. Make sure the ip address matches.

Another option:

Create a shortcut something like the following.

V:\Progress\bin\prowin32.exe -db V:\Vantage\db\Vantage.db -N TCP -H
ServerName -S Epic50

Start in: V:\Progress\bin

You can try the Server ip instead of servername for the -H.

Hi Paul,

This is what mine looks like:

[Vantage Startup]
Executable=V:\PROGRESS\bin\prowin32.exe
Database=V:\VANTAGE\db\vantage
IniFile=V:\VANTAGE\vantage.ini
ParameterFile=V:\VANTAGE\db\Vantage.pf

TempDirectory=C:\Vntgwork
StartupProcedure=mainmenu.w
OtherParameters=-rand 2 -q -basekey ini

What is -H for? You have "anchor" in there. I was wondering if that's
supposed to be the server name. If so, then it's one error on mine, as
"vantage" is the name of the old server.

Gary,

From your desktop, right click on the Vantage shortcut you are using and
select
properties. On the shortcut tab click on "find target". This should show
you the
icon on your mapped drive to the server.

Verify this is the correct MFG file you want to use to start Vantage. If
so, right
click on it and select edit. Verify that the mapped drives are correct,

that you have permission to them.

I've copied and pasted ours from Vantage 6.1, yours should be similar.
We use "P:"

Thank you, I verified that mainmenu.r exists on the new server.

I verified that I did not mistakenly map to the old server. The V: drive

The file you are looking for is Mainmenu.r ".w" is the source code
version and ".r" is the compiled version. The file should be located in
the epic51/vantage folder.

You don't mention the client, mapped drive (share) etc. If you are using

the same client that connected to the old server make sure to uninstall
old client then install/reinstall client from new server. Also make sure

the old server is not mapped. As someone else mentioned make sure to
check your Host and Services file. Remove the entries for the old
server.

Assuming you have changed the IP address on the new server search the
Registry for the old IP address. If you are comfortable with it, delete
the entries - backup first if needed.

Hi all,

We're running 5.1. We haven't upgraded in years, as we were purchased by

another company who uses their own homegrown ERP package. We continue to

management.
The new company told us we could use it that way "until it breaks" at

the
DB is running, but when I double click the Vantage icon, I get a gray

I did a search for that on the server and came up with nothing, but I
had

Switching servers can introduce a bunch of issues. Not the least of which are registry settings on the clients that still point to the old server. Works somewhat better if the new server has the same name as the olde server but that can be a problem if you want both on the network still. Sometimes there are also old entries in the HOSTS and SERVICES files on the clients that will confuse things. When possible (and may be too late now) it is good to uninstall all the clients with only the old server running and then shut that server down (for awhile) and re-install the clients from the new server. If the old server is not available the uninstall of the clients will fail and leave debri in the client registries.

So first try to uninstall a client , then delete all Vantage entries from client's HOSTS and SERVICES files, then re-install the client from new server and see if that fixed at least one of them.

We continue to
use Vantage only for data collection, job entry and materials
management.
The new company told us we could use it that way "until it breaks" at
which
point, we will be out of luck. Anyway, I am setting up a new server and
am
having trouble getting Vantage to work on it. It's all installed, and
the
DB is running, but when I double click the Vantage icon, I get a gray
box
with the messages:

mainmenu.w not found (293)
Unable to run startup procedure mainmenu.w (492)

I did a search for that on the server and came up with nothing, but I
had
the same result when searching on the soon-to-be-retired old server, so
I'm
assuming it's not a free-standing file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember right way back there was a version that whenever I wanted my server to connect I had to use UNC (\\server\folder<file://\\server\folder>) notation rather than a mapped drive letter and I had to have a special version of the vantage.mfg file (or whatever it was called in 5.1...the file the desktop icon points to). This was just on the server itself but my current 6.1 setup uses the regular vantage.mfg file. Local clients all installed and used the V: mapped letter. Not sure if that may be worth trying jsut to see.

Hi Paul,

This is what mine looks like:

What is -H for? You have "anchor" in there. I was wondering if that's
supposed to be the server name. If so, then it's one error on mine, as
"vantage" is the name of the old server.

Gary,

From your desktop, right click on the Vantage shortcut you are using and select
properties. On the shortcut tab click on "find target". This should show you the
icon on your mapped drive to the server.

Verify this is the correct MFG file you want to use to start Vantage. If so, right
click on it and select edit. Verify that the mapped drives are correct, etc. and
that you have permission to them.

I've copied and pasted ours from Vantage 6.1, yours should be similar. We use "P:"
drive for our mapped drive letter.

-H = host. Check your Host, LMHost, Wins and/or DNS for old and new
server names. Make sure the ip address matches.

Another option:

Create a shortcut something like the following.

V:\Progress\bin\prowin32.exe -db V:\Vantage\db\Vantage.db -N TCP -H
ServerName -S Epic50

Start in: V:\Progress\bin

You can try the Server ip instead of servername for the -H.
