Migration from 9 to 10

I am hoping that the product will remain solid and less bugs.  This should happen since it is just one platform and more concentration on one version for testing.

If you have a vanilla epicor install (minimaly customized)
The migration is painless and quick. Of-course if you have customized it heavily that is going to significantly damper your migration.
You have to re-do all BPM,s and fix customization
Re-write all your reports in SSRS (though you can get Crystal to work.. mostly)

The product is solid and its a great "TECHNICAL" improvement though very little actual functionality was changed outside of bug fixing.

    Greetings,

I am coming to the conclusion that the only way we will get the software to work correctly in the quote module is to migrate from 9.05 to version 10. Epicor tells me this is a serious upgrade in the software, as well as a fairly painless migration. However, based on my experience with them, Epicor is going to tell us whatever is best for Epicor, not what is best for us.
So I pose a few questions to anyone in the group that has moved from 9 to 10

        1) How big of an improvement is the software upgrade?
        2) How painful was the migration?
        3) How large of a database was involved in the migration?

    Thanks in advance.

Has anyone else found if you change the customer after a quote is completed it removes the quoted price. I am trying to determine if this is how the software is supposed to function or it is bug.

Thanks

Yep.  We have experienced this "feature" as well.  Here's summary of note to our personnel:

It has recently been brought to our attention that changing the Customer ID on a saved quote deletes pricing as well as “grid” quantity data . This causes the Quote printout to not agree with the quantity / pricing on the Quote line / summary data.  When this occurs, the data for quantity and price needs to get input again into the grid data on the line(s).  NOTE:  It is always good practice to compare the Quote printout Lines total price against the summary tab data, to ensure agreement between printout and quote.

Yes, it is a huge pain in the neck! My program managers and sales people have complained to me many times. I have not reported it to Epicor as I just assumed it was designed that way (and also assuming they will not be fixing 9.05 anymore now that 10 is out since we had another major issue and that was what they told us). If you report it and get an SCR# let me know I will add my name to it!

There are several SCR’s that relate to this situation:

SCR 134551 – Sales Kit Qty breaks wrong when customer changes - Open

SCR 83449 – Line Qty breaks overwritten when customer changes - Open

SCR 131688 – Changing customer sets price to zeros for non-master parts – Fixed in 10.1

The last one for us is the biggie…

Epicor sent us a fix for this on 9.05.702a progress 64-bit... from SCR58041.

Haven't been able to test it yet; but I was told the fix was over a year old.

How about co-parts being created when getting details from previous rev parts? This doubles run time and cuts rates in half, but leaves setup time alone. Makes the price low.
Or deleting out a subassembly and it magically deletes the whole quote? Obvious issues there, lose all the work you did on a quote
Those are our two biggies. 3229811ESC is the number we have to work with, as they haven't been able to fix this yet.

Sincerely,

Jeff Stimson

Was a fix a DLL file?

We are running the same setup.

Epicor sent us a fix for this on 9.05.702a progress 64-bit... from SCR58041.

Haven't been able to test it yet; but I was told the fix was over a year old.

I had to submit a Business Impact Reason to get the one off.

There are a whole slew of .DLLs to be replaced... which is one of the reasons I haven't tested yet.

I worked numerous Saturday nights installing, testing and then removing one-offs in the quote module. A couple are still in place, most did not work. I feel your pain and your reluctance to test.

Additionally, just getting one-offs from Epicor is like pulling teeth. Their attitude kills me. Provide us with a business reason why we should make the software work right.

EXCUSE ME???? Am I the only one that gets frustrated with Epicor and their attitude of "Why should we fix this for you?" and "Just get version 10, it fixes all of your issues"? We paid for working software in 9 and have yet to have the quote module work in an accurate, consistent and effective manner.

Sorry for the hijack, but this caught me in the middle of yet another battle with them to fix something. I am getting EXTREMELY frustrated with their company attitude.

Am I the only one that gets frustrated with Epicor and their attitude of "Why should we fix this for you?" and "Just get vers ion 10, it fixes all of your issues"? We paid for working software in 9 and have yet to have the quote module work in an accurate, consistent and effective manner.

Sorry for the hijack, but this caught me in the middle of yet another battle with them to fix something. I am getting EXTREMELY frustrated with their company attitude.

I had to submit a Business Impact Reason to get the one off.
There are a whole slew of .DLLs to be replaced... which is one of the reasons I haven't tested yet.

Hi Jett – I am completely with you on this. The other thing that drives me nuts is when we find the issue and report it, to find out it is a known issue. These known issues should be provided to existing users before we run into them ourselves. We had another MAJOR issue which was a known issue which messed up all of our job costing but took us a while to discover. (and no fix for that one except “coming on vers 10 or 10.1” I just had to disable the feature in 9.05). LKuckily there was a fix to get the job costing corrected, but not to address the functional issue. 75% of my support calls are asking for fixes for things that are broken.Â

Good luck, I really hope it works for you

I worked numerous Saturday nights installing, testing and then removing one-offs in the quote module. A couple are still in place, most did not work. I feel your pain and your reluctance to test.

Additionally, just getting one-offs from Epicor is like pulling teeth. Their attitude kills me. Provide us with a business reason why we should make the software work right.

EXCUSE ME???? Am I the only one that gets frustrated with Epicor and their attitude of "Why should we fix this for you?" and "Just get vers ion 10, it fixes all of your issues"? We paid for working software in 9 and have yet to have the quote module work in an accurate, consistent and effective manner.

Sorry for the hijack, but this caught me in the middle of yet another battle with them to fix something. I am getting EXTREMELY frustrated with their company attitude.

Jeff Stimson I get the frustration, but at the same time we are paying for working software you’re right. It’s why we pay maintenance to get upgrades to the latest software as they fix things. From a business standpoint it doesn’t make sense for them to continually go back and keep reworking larger issues in old software. I certainly don’t want my maintenance dollars going towards fixing things in the past. I’m not saying that Epicor can’t be a pain about some of the issues especially when they have a patch for it and still give you the run around, but I get where they are coming from nothing in 9 at this point will close a business doors that I can think of.

Joshua Giese,

With all due respect, quotes for new revision parts that come out with pricing that is too low doesn't help a business keep its doors open. Enough of those will destroy a company's profitability.
I understand the point you are making on maintenance dollars, but we just went live with 9.05 this year. The migration was extremely painful, and we are very reluctant to go through another such move. Epicor says that the migration from 9 to 10 is extremely smooth, but I have learned from experience not to take anything said by Epicor as truth without significant outside confirmation.

I will send a separate email to the group asking about how the migration from 9 to 10 went.

Thanks,

Jeff Stimson

Big Hurdles when jumping full versions I think.

We went from Vantage 6 to 9.04 and it was a pain.

9.04 to 9.05, was okay…then to 9.05.607A

We were on 9.05.607A for about 3 years.

607A to 702A conversion was not a huge issue, just all these little new things that are broken.

I do wish they have a WHAT IS WRONG NOW list.

Jeff Stimson I get the frustration, but at the same time we are paying for working software you’re right. It’s why we pay maintenance to get upgrades to the latest software as they fix things. From a business standpoint it doesn’t make sense for them to continually go back and keep reworking larger issues in old software. I certainly don’t want my maintenance dollars going towards fixing things in the past. I’m not saying that Epicor can’t be a pain about some of the issues especially when they have a patch for it and still give you the run around, but I get where they are coming from nothing in 9 at this point will close a business doors that I can think of.

I had to submit a Business Impact Reason to get the one off.

There are a whole slew of .DLLs to be replaced... which is one of the reasons I haven't tested yet.

If you have a vanilla epicor install (minimaly customized)Â
The migration is painless and quick. Of-course if you have customized it heavily that is going to significantly damper your migration.
You have to re-do all BPM,s and fix customization
Re-write all your reports in SSRS (though you can get Crystal to work.. mostly)

The product is solid and its a great "TECHNICAL" improvement though very little actual functionality was changed outside of bug fixing.

I have to get my 2 cents worth in.

The problem with the argument that Epicor needs to concentrate fixes on the latest version is that just about ever thing broken in our version 8.03 was reported to them long before version 9 was even off the drawing board.  I know the sales people love seeing new and flashy features because that is what sells, but having a bad reputation for buggy software and frustrating service and support is really holding them back, whether they realize it or not.

Thanks,

Jeff Stimson I get the frustration, but at the same time we are paying for working software you’re right. It’s why we pay maintenance to get upgrades to the latest software as they fix things. From a business standpoint it doesn’t make sense for them to continually go back and keep reworking larger issues in old software. I certainly don’t want my maintenance dollars going towards fixing things in the past. I’m not saying that Epicor can’t be a pain about some of the issues especially when they have a patch for it and still give you the run around, but I get where they are coming from nothing in 9 at this point will close a business doors that I can think of.

I had to submit a Business Impact Reason to get the one off.
There are a whole slew of .DLLs to be replaced... which is one of the reasons I haven't tested yet.
