It's been forever since trying to access the Vantage group page and check
out the downloads. For some reason the user and password I have do not work
any more. How to I find out what user name I need and get the password.

Thanks

Anyone else run into this?

I have several printers on my network, each one connected locally to a
different computer. Some computers are running NT 4.0, some XP, some W2K.
Every so often, all the printers will begin to spit out paper after paper
with the standard garbage on the first couple lines, nothing else. They all
have to be shut down and restarted to clear their memory.

I never had this problem until I added a particular XP machine, but haven't
been able to trace it to any "event" happening on that computer. I haven't
been able to find anything in MS KB either.

I'm hoping someone else has had this happening and found a solution.
Anyone?

Thanks.

We have an XP pro workstation that locks up in Vantage when printing shop
travellers. It only happens after you print 4 or 5, no pattern other than
that. We print to a HP 4000 printer. I contacted tech support over a month
ago but still no reply. There does seem to be some conflict printing but
haven't been able to pin it down.

Terry,

I found the article below on Sophos.com (an anti-virus software company) --
might explain your printing issue.

Are your printers possessed by the Bugbear?

Researchers at Sophos, a world leader in corporate anti-virus protection,
have revealed that a bug in the code of the W32/Bugbear-A
<http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32bugbeara.html> worm may
unwittingly alert users to its presence.

W32/Bugbear-A not only spreads via email attachment, but also attempts to
copy itself around your network.

The worm tries to copy itself to all types of shared network resources,
including printers. Printers cannot become infected, but they will attempt
to print out the raw binary data of W32/Bugbear-A's executable code. This
usually results in many wasted pages of paper.

"You may be surprised to find your printer churning out reams of
gobbledegook and gibberish," said Graham Cluley, senior technology
consultant for Sophos. "However, if it were not for this bug in the worm's
code it's possible some computer users would not have realised until much
later that something strange was occurring on their network. Clearly many
viruses are not the work of careful programmers keen to avoid bugs."

Jim:

YouÂ’re right on the money. I downloaded the remove tool and ran in on all
computers I felt might be suspect. Lo and behold, it wasnÂ’t the XP machine
I thought, but a W2K computer. Once I told the user he appeared to be the
culprit, the story came out about an email he opened a while back that didnÂ’
t do anything and “That’s about when this all started!”. Thanks, man.
