Multi tasking of direct labor employees

sorry. One operator may begin the day on one job, a couple of hours later he
might begin another job in the same work center, different machine....ALWAYS
a different machine. After two hours he stops job #2 and finish his eight
hours on job #1. This gives him 7 hours on job 1 and 1 hour on job 2 as we
are splitting direct hours. The efficiencies are measured against how many
parts SHOULD have been produced in 2 hours (earned hours) although he
actually only worked on that one job for one hour, thus a 50% efficiency is
actually 100%. I could handle it if this was as complex as it gets, but
juggling several jobs, splitting 37 minutes over four jobs and 58 minutes
over 5 jobs then stopping one of them and then distributing time over the
remaining four....... Sheesh! It can be a nightmare.

I read daily and see a number of technical issues in this forum but often
times, there is little response to issues regarding actual application of
the tools that Vantage offers. Our company is currently experiencing such a
problem and to date, Vantage support has not been able to give much help. I
would think it is a common problem so I'd like to throw it out here, hoping
that someone has a "work-around" solution. We have direct labor
"multi-tasking" at times, while they are dedicated to one specific operation
at other times. This is creating major headaches with efficiencies on labor
edit reports (and other places) due to the splitting of direct hours and the
use of "earned" hours for these efficiencies. Maybe I'm missing a key
ingredient here but I'm hoping someone has encountered and resolved this
problem and can either knock some sense into me or at least offer some sound
resolution.
Thanks.

Mark,

Can you be more specific ... What do you mean by "Multi-Tasking".

Is this one operator running 1 or more machines at a time or one operator
running more than 1 job concurrently on the same machine or ... ?
