New Server

Now that I look back on my 5.0 things, the "Shop Warnings" was another issue
with Data Collection. Guess I'm still on hold for 5.0.

We have pc data collection terminals and were having trouble with the
terminals locking up. Mostly when everyone was clocking out for lunch and at
the end of the shift but occasionly anytime during the day. So I would say
that the problem is not unique to TT5's or Citrix. Support wanted to blame
our network. I shut off "Shop Warnings" and lock up problems have quit for
now. We are still monitoring.

Wendy:

I've not made the jump to 5.0 yet, but my understanding from several
off-list conversations is that the data collection problems in 5.0 only
exist if you are using the TT5 stations or if you have a citrix - terminal
server type set-up. Maybe someone ON-LIST could verify that? I'm lucky,
all my data collection stations are in the building and just cheap
computers. No bar-coding, gateways and whatever.

...We also just got a new server in specifically for Vantage. I agree with
Rick. Last week I just copied 4.0 to our new server. I started by doing a
fresh install of Progress and Vantage. Then installed patches, ran
conversions, then restored the data to the new server from my online backup.
It went fairly well.

5.0 seems to be working decent for us (except for the fact that we're not
utilizing the Progress Explorer tool). I upgraded us last Saturday. But,
we aren't using data collection either. I had heard that some of the bugs
went away after the 5.00.317 patch.

I want to move our vantage system to a new server, my question
is how is the best way to do this. Can I start with a fresh
Install of vantage if I don't have all of the patches from the
beginning of Ver 4? Or can you tell me Ver 5 is really better
than most users is the groups are saying and I can go to that.
Either way I still want to move my Ver 4 to the new and faster
server first...

Thanks,

Jim
