TT5's and Data Collections

Well, the other BIG concern is that our labor will not be able to use the
software. My jobs are generally of very short duration and typically have
2-3 operations total. We have considered using barcoding, etc, but to date
I haven't really had time to set it up and found it didn't work as thought I
were using a standard input device (i.e., mouse, keyboard).

Is anyone using the TT5's for data collections? Are you pleased with it? Any trouble keeping it online? Do you also use traditional Data Collections?

This seems like a much cheaper more cost effective solution but I wonder how the Gateway actually performs.

Thanks
Jeremy Leonard
Long long ago, far far away, we tried TT5's. It was a love hate
relationship without the love. They didn't work well and any bit of
exploring by inquisitive minds could crash them.

We've been using TT5's for data collection for 5 years. As Shirley said,
definitely love hate. We have 10 bar code scanners on the floor using 1
data collection license (the love part). The gateway and labor collector
programs we use came directly from Epicor and hours of testing. They are
not the standard versions that ship with the Vantage CD. They make the data
collection system bearable (barely). The original versions on the CD are
not stable enough. Even with the new versions we reset the labor collection
gateway about twice a week. It is a pain to maintain. The bar code
scanners and units are durable and cheap to fix, though.

My Epicor account manager has been hinting at the fact that data collection
with TT5's will not be available in version 8. I can't say I'm sad, but it
will be a difficult transition. Our barcoding system works pretty well
(other than the pain we feel behind the scenes).

We are also desperately trying to automate our data collection of job
information. As it stands now we are manually entering labor data from
sheets collected per shift, per machine. For my situation its somewhat cost
prohibitive to put data terminals at each machine and then purchasing enough
data collection licenses to make it efficient and cost effective. Is there
a way to run Vantage on CE platform, then upload said data to vantage? I
have been researching this problem since this summer, but still haven't
found a solution that makes economic sense to me. What are other people
from the group using to collect job/labor data on the floor input by machine
operators?

Mark:

We have 17 total shop people, counting supervisors, shipping, etc.

We use 4 full/office licenses and 2 data collector licenses. The shipping
pc uses an office license, but also fires up the data collection function,
which effectively gives us 3 data collection sites. This is sufficient for
about 14 people to log on and off jobs throughout the day.

Hope this helps you.
