I am very new to Vantage 8.03 but I do have some development skills. I haven't had any formal training on BPM's but I can see they can be very powerful judging by the number of posts about them on the Vantage usergroup. I have a need to alter the "Part Master" entry screen to add a rule that says that the "Class" field cannot be blank and must have something entered in order to submit a new part. I think this might be a simple BPM but since I've never done one, I thought I'd ask for some help on this first one to get my feet wet. Can anyone give me some guidance on what this would require and any repercussions that might occur due to the change. Thanks so much!

You should be able to do this pretty easily without even writing any code.

You'll need to create a pre-processing directive on the Part.Update method.
Set the condition to:
-Value of the Part.ClassID field is ""
And set the action to:
-Raise exception based on the designed template.

That should do the trick.

Thanks John...I got this to work but only if I am "updating" a part. If I enter a "new" part, it still allows me to "save" it first but on subsequent edits, it will fire and make me enter the ClassID as I want. How do I get it to work to make it "mandatory" that a Class is entered when entering a part from scratch. Here is my current BPM:

Table: ttPart
Pre-Processing Condition: The ttpart.ClassId of the update row is equal to ""
Pre-Processing Action: Raise exception based on the ClassID issue template.

As stated, it works correctly but only if I'm "updating" a part already in the system. It doesn't fire when creating a new part from scratch..I need both conditions covered. Thanks for your help!

Epicor differentiates between 'Updated' and 'Added' rows. Add another
condition that is the same, EXCEPT change it to say 'the added row'. Make
sure you use an 'OR' instead of an 'AND' between the conditions so that it
fires whenever either of them hits.
